Topic: Text to Email?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Is there a program/way to have people send texts and have those texts received only by email?

I currently do not have an unlimited cell texting plan. I would like the email to have a separate linked number, and not have the texts forwarded to another phone.

I've looked at Firetext and Google Voice, but I would like a program where I don't have to link my cell # at all.

Why not set up a gmail account and have your guests text that email address? I know with Verizon if I text a email address it shows up as number@vtext.com

I have as gmail account so I will do a test text real quick. Test worked came thru as mycellphonenumber@vtext.com

I was able to get Google voice to work. I just disabled the send to cell feature, and enabled the send to email.

Cool.

do you have to pay for receiving texts as well as sending them in the state's?

it depends on your texting plan. I have unlimited text.

What the OP was wanting to do is have the texts sent to an email account. That is doable with GMail. I even have an email address set up on my domain that people can send their emails/texts to and I will get the emails on my phone.

Maybe you can use a computer texting service like pinger. You're given a texting phone number and you open Pinger in your browser and you can send and receive texts all night for free.

I've never used this service before but it may be an option

I use pinger on my Ipad, and it works great. The crowd just sends me a txt with the song requests and or any shout outs as well as announcements from management regarding drink specials. Just be sure to make a card or image that depicts the number so that your not constantly on the mic announcing the number.
