This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Anyone know a solution for this?

Next to the 'search' bar is that magnifiying glass, click on it and make sure you have 'Key' selected.

At least I think thats what your talking about..........

it has been selected the whole time. still nothing. thanks, man

Those scanned files, that dont show the Key, do they show the BPM value ?
Can you post a screenshot to understand your issue ?

they show song name, artist and bpm. i've tried everything i know and searched the boards. thanks for the help :)

Try this assuming the files have been scanned or rescanned to obtain the key data:

Select the folder or any folder with files that have been scanned.
Select the first one so its highlighted, then press and hole shift while you press and hold the arrow down button so the whole lot is now highlighted.
Then right click on the lot and select "Batch" and then "Reload Tag" and see if the info appears.

Hope this helps you

no luck. thank you for your efforts

figured it out....right click on the artist, song name, bpm tab on the browser right above the song listings. then click "key" shweeeeeet!!

OK that has nothing to do with the way you described you problem in the first place......smh.
You should have said, "keys not showing up in the browser."

What it has to do with is he didn't read your last reply, because if he did I wouldn't have replied with mine.
Maybe a new avatar is in order....smhlmao

i love board "pro's"...smh!!! is it always easy for folks to convey every single aspect easily and get they're point across easily, especially in a forum setting, the first time? especially for stuff as complicated as software programs. i dont think so. never did. i have fine-tuned my VDJ pro since about version 5. you guys want to split hairs about the jargon i used? first "board pro" mentioned the little "annoying" magnifying glass. guess what, junior. it was the same but different. ha!! maybe you guys are just sad because i figured it out without your "expert" advice. Good day!!

Sorry bro no need to be a dick...........but all I was saying was if you would have said the keys werent showing in the Browser and not Search (they are 2 different things) you could of been setteled 2 days ago.............

just as i said not everyone knows how to splain shit the first time perfectly. especially with complicated computer jargon shit. you know how hard it is to find things on here sometimes when you dont know the exact terminology? save the "smh" shit for the no license user the folks who havented invested time and money learning and using this product. if i'm a dick cuz i demand respect then so be it

thank you for your assistance just the same. damn, i need some coffee :)

To be exact about this, the magnifying glass is for the search engine fields, not the browser display.

While I myself am not one to sit and read the user guide, there is a lot to be said for the complexity of this program that is illustrated in the user guide.
Look at page 15 of the user guide below.
This can be found on your system at my documents/virtualdj/user guide

but the magnifying glass "key" was clicked the whole time. but it didnt show "key" until i discovered to right click the tabs underneath the search field bar (song name, artist, bpm). when you right click those tabs a list identical to the magnifying glass pops up. that is what finally turned on the "key" in the search results field. so there are two locations for the magnifying glass list and both have to be clicked.

Yes.

This is because they do two different things, the first is a search field filter.
So if you wish to search by key, entering that info into the search box will deliver returns by the key you wish to find matches for.
The other makes the field viewable in your browser as a constant for all files.

I think this whole confusion might have rendered different results had more clarity been given and answered to with specifics.

As a pro user I know you will find things explained that you have discovered with hands on use in the user guide, I know I did.
Users explore things on different levels, some the most simple of use and many over time much more in depth.

A lot of users spent a lot of time to develop the user guide so it covers things both in text and graphically. Digesting a little at a time is a little less overwhelming but is guaranteed to excite as you learn new things you never knew where there. I don't say that to blow you off, but there is essentially way to much detail to explain with simple answers here. What is very simple to some in the forum, is totally different to others just starting out. So don't be upset if misunderstandings or short answers come from those who take it for granted what they already know about the software.

Best
