Agreed. You'll not get all your RAM but I would say Win 7 32 bit is the best OS for Virtual DJ.

I agree with you guys, worked fine for 2 years so gonna go back to that configuration with the added bonus of making the bootcamp partition bigger. I only gave it 32gigs initially, will go to 64gigs this time.
...............and this time all my VDJ stuff is up on Dropbox ;-)

Well that's it done. Back to the 32bit version of Windows 7 and fully functioning. Went straight through the night, bit of a pain getting everything back together. Took around 6 hours to get to where I wanted to be.
Before leaving Windows 8 I checked it with the DPC Latency checker. With an idle desktop, nothing disabled and no running programs, I had ALL HIGH YELLOWS and lots of regular RED spikes.
On this fresh clean install of Windows 7 with an idle desktop nothing disabled and no running programs, the majority of the time is LOW GREENS with a few occasional MID YELLOWS and NO REDS.
On running the Latency Monitor I found the main culprit is the NVIDIA Windows Kernal Mode Driver. This was on both W8 and W7. All other drivers were peaking at no more than 0.5ms. The NVIDIA Driver is peaking at 2.6ms, substantially slower than all the others. Obviously I can't disable that, but, at least it has less impact on Windows 7.

Thanks for the info Les,
To be honest I never embrace a new Microsoft OS prior to SP1 but all your experementation has confirmed this is still the case with W8.
It's great you took the time to do this and share the results with the VDJ community.

The DPC latency checker web site here does state that the checker isn't currently 100% compatible with Windows 8 and shows incorrect (negative) results - and that a Windows 8 version will be coming.
I was just about to try it on my Windows 8 system, but having seen that, there's not much point.

I like living on the edge Keith lol.
Partly because of 36 years DJing experience and using computers for DJing since 1998. Also, have used computers since 1979 and used to teach computer studies/programming way back in the 80s after doing a BA in Data Processing. It all helps........ especially my backup iPod thats playing constantly at every gig, just need to turn the volume up when needed. ;-)

DJ Soulman,
I just saw the settings you wrote before. 48KHz quality resampling works only on those videos with 48KHz in its audio... This would slow down the loads of the videos in your decks. I suggest you to use it in FAST Stretching as well for the MASTER TEMPO settings. This would ensure the best performance settings. The Advanced stretching and the 48KHz quality conversion would need more CPU usage.
I really think this may also change the way your computer works with VirtualDJ now.

Oh thanks for that, I will change to those settings for this weekend.
I have completely switched back to Windows 7 32bit for this weekend onwards. ;-)

I know this thread is a little dated, but I need to know if the latest version of VDJ Pro is compatible with Windows 8. It appears from this thread that there are some issues. Also, would I be able to use a touch screen to control VDJ. I’ve been gone from the boards for a while and stopped DJing. I’m thinking about getting back into DJing, but I’m not sure if VDJ is compatible with Windows 8 and touch screen technology.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated....
Thanks

Well, this weekend I had a long Friday night as we had a later license than usual. Did a full 6 hour nightclub gig with no problems.
Last night (Saturday) after 3 hours the playing video slowed down exactly like it did last week with a full dance floor. I pushed the fader up for my iPod backup and to my total horror................ nothing............ jeezzz!!!!! Checked in my headphones and the iPod was OK, but, no output from the MC6000, OMG never had this before. Luckily there was a CD playing in the clubs CD player so put the volume up on that.

Wow guy, you realy was in a flippin situation, I alway use a iPad for backup but I never plug it into my controller because if it goes there goes your backup. I bring my own mixer to all my gigs and everything plugs there for total control...

I had the same problem ...but after installing a new version of codec pack called k-lite v.9.7....everything went to normal.

Two things I have noticed with running 7.3 on Windows 8 64 bit:
1. When I put my mouse cursor on any moving part of the display (jog wheels, timelines etc) it causes those parts of the ski to stop moving or glitch. One time, even locking up Virtual. I have the correct video drivers for my machine from Intel. This issue occurs running it both with just the mouse and with a controller.
2. When running it with my Denon DN-HD2500 controller in MIDI mode, I have had issues where Virtual will lock up Windows completely. You cannot even alt+tab to get out of it. The computer has to be powered off and rebooted.
Is anyone else experiencing similar issues?
My system is an i5 running Windows 8 64 Bit with 8 GB of system RAM. All of my drivers are the correct ones.

ok, so for anyone else with this issue, its NOT Virtual DJ, this is apparently a bug in Windows 8 and the Intel video drivers. I did try rolling back to older Video drivers to rule this out (Windows 7 drivers) but i couldn't come to the conclusion. I also have no other "games" or programs with any sort of motion installed other than Virtual DJ to compare my issue with. BUT after extensive internet searching via Google, i have found a temporary/permanant solution:
control panel>hardware and sound>mouse
under <pointers> tab
scheme = none
enable pointer shadow = unchecked
under <pointer options> tab
display pointer trails = CHECKED (this is key) and drag the bar all the way to "short"
hide pointer while typing = unchecked
hit apply, ok.
This should fix any issues you may have, its worked for me. hope this info helps others aswell

^as far as I could see, this is only an issue with intel drivers. I haven't had any problems with VDJ and Win8 after doing the mouse trail trick. Intel is aware of the issue but hasn't released any new drivers that i'm aware of. but this is the only issue I had with VDJ and Win8 64bit, everything else seems to run smoothly, if not just as fast as my win7 64x machine (main machine). the win8 laptop is my back up.
thanks for posting that djdad, hopefully it helps others.
