This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi Guys, does anyone know the broadcast record settings on the VMS4.1 controller, i have already looked at the main page on the site how to do this but still getting no luck, and you can still here all the cueing when broadcasting live, done almost every config setting in the advance settings but still no joy, is anyone using the vms4.1 for live broadcasting? :-(

im going by the vms4 here but i think it would be the same with the vms4.1

the vms4 is a digital/analogue hybrid.. the deck parts on the vms4 are digital but the centre of it is analouge,
so when the signal goes from the vdj software to the vms4 threw the usb cable the vms4 mixes the music
not the vdj software. since it mixes the music as an analogue signal it dosent send the music back up the usb cable
to your pc. instead you should use the master out on the back of the vms4 and plug that into either a amp or you could
find a cable that will plug straight into your pc speakers.

i have the master output from the vms4 going back to the pc useing the computers line in.
this enables me to use audiacity to record and i use simplecast to broadcast to the internet radio station.

i use the mapper by djdad for the vms4 as it seems to work the best for me.

alternatively you can find a mapper in the download section that will let you use the vms4 in digital mode.
this will mean that vdj is doing the mixing on the computer and the vms4 is just used as a control.
so when you move the cross faders and move the eq knobs it relays back to vdj for that effect to be done by the software.

i believe that will enable you to use both record and broadcast from vdj.
iv not tried it my self but im sure this is correct.

Thanks for the info, will give both a try and see what is best for me, just one thing i have only got 2 mini jacks, mic and headphone inputs on my laptop? no outputs? would i have to get a external sound card to plug in to record out?

a new soundcard would be best but i used the mic line on my old desktop pc when i blew the line in channel by plugging in
an active jack by mistake and the mic line worked fine. i was told that the mic line wasnt as good quality but i never noticed
and problems in sound quality.

give it a go and see how it works before you decide if you want to buy a external sound card

make sure you turn off the mic line in the sound setting of your laptop while pluging in the jack then turn it back on when ur ready to use it
just to be on the safe side. or plug it in before you boot the pc up....

Im still not quite sure what settings in the sound config mode i need to set for recording looked at djdads spec but had a link to another page not telling how to set the config on a vms4.1 what do you have your settings set in the config mode? sorry for all the questions have a radio show starting soon!

The important thing is to understand that you cant use the sound card of VMS4 to record or broadcast.
You will need however to use the output of the VMS4 and route the output signal to a line input of a different sound card.
That is why most of times the booth output is used to route the master output to a different sound card.
Bottom line..use a proper cable and connect the Booth output of the VMS4 with the Line In of another sound card (e.g. the LineIn or Mic In of your computer).

After that, you have 2 ways..
1. Use Audacity or similar application to record your mixes. You can use your current sound setup with VirtualDJ, but will not record or broadcast.

2. Use VirtualDJ RecordLoopback line in Advanced Sound setup, and use VirtualDJ to record or Broadcast
The RecordLoopback line should look like...
RecordLoopback..... Soundcard you connected the Booth of VMS4.....inputs 1,2

As i understand it well, there can be recorded via Audacity on the same pc as where you running VDJ on?
No need for a second pc?

yes, you need to connect the output from the controller from the booth or master out back to the pc line in to do this

When i try this, Audacity tells me there's a error and i have to change the input device settings.
I changed a lot a settings on bouth Audacity and VDJ, but this error keeps popping up as i press the record button.
Anyone knows what i'm doing wrong?

you try 8 out becouse 4 out its not enough

Note: In case you are using a Mac, you will probably get this error in Sound Setup, as MAcs dont like using 2 sound cards at the same time by one application.
In this case, you need to create an aggregate device and combine outputs and inputs from various sound cards.

Sounds difficult! No easier solution?
I've been cherching the net for answers, but none of it works for me -> error keeps popping up.
So i realy need some help with this!
