Hey all, and apologies if this should live in the PC support section...
I'm looking to upgrade my 1TB external drive with mains power to an alternative 1TB drive powered from the USB port - figured the less I have to plug into the mains, the better, and it has to be considerably more portable that way. Plus its another lead I won't need to worry about/leave behind/forget. Common sense has dictated this is the way forward.
This leaves my old drive free to do with what I will, but the new drive will have just my music on it. I will transfer all the data from one to the other, no problem at all.
Now, does this mean, because VDJ will be reading from the new drive, I must tell VDJs database, as surely all the track information relating to the old drive is now defunct? Or, can I just delete the old database and associated history (favourites, history etc), and create a new one from scratch on the new drive? Or copy the database to the new drive? (Or will that cause upset again, because the new drives folder structure will no doubt end up different) And given VDJ gets upset if I plug my USB soundcard into a different slot, will it mind me choosing a different socket for the new drive?
Or am I worrying for nothing..?
Ta much.

Just copy everything from the old drive to the new one including the DB file on the root of the drive. Simple as that.

i had to do the same make sure you keep the virt files as it will include the bmp and list of all the music. I had a melt down as I have a mass collection of music and thought i lost the info and notes. It took me ten years and lots of cash to buy..It was a forum like this that kept me on track. When you buy the hard drive buy one that the usb 2 and three ready you will know by the usb end as its like nothing you have seen. the speed and quality was off the hook.

As I'm just a hobbyist at the moment, I'm not too fussed if VDJ loses all this information - in fact, I think I would be happier starting afresh, as the new drive will mean I have a permanent installation in my living room, and a better excuse to thrash all my tunes all over again.
Is it really as simple as just deleting the database at the root of my current drive?
