Topic: DJ Name - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

Firstly I'll apologise If there is an open forum for this catagory but the search did not match anything. I'm struggling to come up with a dj name. I realise that branding and being unique is a big part of marketing yourself in the industry today and so I did not want to include DJ in my title. The good brands are normally personal and normally made up such as pryda, tiesto, etc

Just a bit about myself I'm Welsh in the millitary and play Electro/Progressive house, I'm a very outgoing character and been known to sound a big like a fog horn with no volume control :) I have also been given numerous other names but I wont go there.

Can someone please help me out with this or give me some guidance

Thanks

James

Truly great DJ names are organic. Just do a few jobs, and one will be thrown out, and stick....

What's wrong with just using your own name????

I've always thought DJ names are stupid. Just an ego stroke or a hide behind persona. Just my .02cents worth.

Agreed. Works OK for lots of DJs.

Look through this list and see how many of them are using "DJ names".

So your parents named you "Xcakid" ? No disrespect, especially if that's a family name ;)

Seriously though, I generally do use my regular name, but just for fun, I will often make something up for a night, or let someone else give me a temporary name. Maybe eventually one will stick better than my real name, but I doubt it.

How about . . . . . .

Mike Shy !!!!!

Well my Full Name is James Michael Williams, or Jay, I can see what you mean about some people hiding behind the name I just wanted to try and be a bit creative

Forum name <> DJ name.

Look at his avatar. He's Al Tadeo.

:-)

I think Jay Williams sounds fine.

I know, I was just trying to be funny ;)

And 'Jay Williams" or "James Williams" do sound good. In fact, when I see a DJ using a real first and last name, it seems to be a little more classy... maybe a bit less pretentious.

You could also go with something like
"Jimmy Bills"

but only if you're a country DJ, or possibly a hip hop DJ if you spell it
"Jimmy Bill$"
or
"J Billz"

Just my forum name. I am from CA now residing in TX, so eX CAlifornia KID seemed fitting for a forum name. But I do use DJ Al Tadeo (my name) as my DJ name. :D

Sorry if I offended anyone with my previous comment, but I really do not get the whole DJ name thing. Plus its sucks putting that crap on your booking agreement. Also most of the venues I play at pays by check. I don't see em writing a check to DJ Awesome and my bank cashing it. LOL. Booking agreement will say something like DJ Bad-A AKA DJ Al Tadeo.....make checks payable to DJ Al Tadeo.....All flyers and advertising will be under DJ Goofy Filipino Dude.

speaking as a country DJ (DJ "j" but only when i have to) who would never use a symbol in the name...

but i digress.

military background gave me an idea - depending on your rating you could carry around a rather large paddle or cane and be DJ Corporal Punishment.

next place you spin at, get the crowd involved have them write dj names on a bit of paper and then attach them to a dart board. have the hot girl with a moderate amount to drink throw a dart and there you'll have it. then you can tell them you'll remember them forever when you're a rich and famous dj.

Nice!
or maybe Private 'Parts'?
General Disarray?
Seaman Stains?
Captain Morgan?
Major Woody?

Looking back at your original post, I think maybe "DJ FogHorn" would be good! You can easily make a nice sample with the name followed by a foghorn sound. It would definitely be very catchy.

Foghorn James! Put that on your business cards!...

good to see the community has a creative side. think I'll probably go with my real name jay williams, I am a corporal so punisher would work. I love the idea of using hot chicks to try and pick a DJ name, its a great line to use, if not a bit cheesy!!

the hot chick was to throw a dart at a board covered in crowd-sourced dj names - then when you get your "F*CK ME I'M FAMOUS" concert you can blame/thank them for it.

Check it out...your a soldier you shoot at people right ,,,How bout DJ J-aimz say it fast...Dj James but get freaky wit it..DJ J-Aimz on the 1s and 2s...lets go...

My DJ name was given to me by a couple of DJ's in the area. DJ Godfather, DJ Danny, and DJ Dick Nixon gave me the name DJ Whozya about 14 years ago and I have used for that long.
