I'm pretty new--I learned how to fade out using audacity learned out to change pitch tempo learned how to "normalize"
I've got my niche--my own mixing technique that once I learn more basics I'm going to start "using in my works."
I want to learn to make my own beats--but wouldn't know which program to get for that--
I've got ideas of songs that haven't been remixed that I thought back in the day when I heard the songs and they were popular
Said boy this would make a cool remix.
And once you make your remixes what can you do with them?
What does remixing songs accomplish?
I'm looking for stuff to do with free time--I've got a lot of free time and I can't hold down the typical 9-5 due to health issues
in my back and stuff--also I write a lot in my free time also and I'm looking more ways to expand. What happens when someone likes
what you do with the virtual software?

Also My daughter's got a party coming up and I want to make a remix CD with some of the songs I've got offf itunes and put em on a cd for her to play in her room. She uses the CD and I monitor when she uses it--what are you allowed to do with the stuff that you remix? I don't even know.

Yeah, virtual dj is really designed for playing songs on, and using the controls to blend the end of one song into the start of the next one in a cool "beat mixed" sort of way so that it sounds good.
You could practice blending songs together in virtual dj and record your "set" using either virtual DJ, or audacity, since you know how to use that, then use itunes or whatever to burn it to a CD for your daughter?
You can make it a bit more complicated than just blending two songs together in virtual dj by using samples or sound effects, but to do a proper remix you would need something designed for producing music (a much more complicated thing to do!!).
Two bits of software for producing music are "FL Studio" which I've never used but apparently is quite easy to get started on, and then "Ableton Live" which is very popular, but harder to learn. To get to know it properly, think in terms of a few months watching videos on youtube and messing around with the software- definitely not something you could just pick up in an afternoon!
By the way, the point of making a remix (if that's what you wanted to do) is to change the feeling of a song. So maybe you have a favourite song that's great, but not very dance-able, so you remix it so you can play it to DJ with. Or maybe you love Dubstep so you take your favourite song and turn it into a dubstep song instead.
Hope that helps.

Mnay ppl., once they remix a song or create one, open a free Soundcloud account and upload it for others to give feedback on....
