I know this is an old topic, just went through the threads, but there has been nothing for quite a long time.so here it goes.I am starting to do more weddings so I dug out my old lappy. It has vista on it,just dripped it off at the computer service place and having them take off all the blotted files and go down to bare bones, won't be using wireless and it will be a dedicated back up.The question is,is vista now stable enough to run vdj.The computer is a toshiba and exceeds min specs.Hope I can get some help before a drop a cool 100 sheet on this.

Vista is bad for midi and poor in general.
I would suggest downgrade to XP or upgrade to W7

Just make sure there are drivers available for which ever OS you choose.
If you go newer (to W7) then maybe you'll get lucky and they'll be onboard the OS, but going the other way (to XP) you have to be careful as the computer may be newer than the OS, and drivers for the hardware may not be available.

I have my old Acer & Gateway lappy's set up as a triple boot 32bit(XP,Vista, W7). I honestly mainly use 32bit Vista & VDJ v5.07 at one of my regular venues on friday nites because I leave some my setup at the location. Plus I could only get my Behringer BCD2000 to work flawlessly with Vista running video with those under spec'd lappys (1.6ghz dual core, 2gb ram,224mb SHARED video). With the same machines running XP I use an NS6 or Mixtrack Pro or Dj2Go or (2) V7's & a RMX or TCV. I purchased an Asus G71GX about 6months ago which I have setup as a (5) boot (32bit W7 & Vista, 64bit W7 & Vista & W8). On that laptop I either use 32bit Vista or W7. I set my machines up this way so I can test different hardware with different OS's.

Been running vista since it's release with a RMX, absolutely no problems at all.
You may have to go to the manufactuers site and not nvidia's when updating video drivers though.

Vista has a known problem with its MIDI stack that can crash if too many MIDI messages are transmitted in one go. This is only usually the case for excessive scratching on controllers with high resolution jogwheels though and some controllers such as Denon have workarounds that can be enabled.
The Hercules RMX doesn't have a high resolution jogwheel, so this is why you don't have any problems.
However, Vista in general is a poorly designed and 'bloated' operating system and you will find that Windows XP or Windows 7 on the same computer will generally perform much better, especially starting up/shutting down.

This is all good news.Get my rig back today and had the tech guy take out all the bloated crap and I run an RMX and don't scratch so hopefully it will be all good.
