All good advice here, for me, it's the equipment thing that hurts the most - you save up to buy niiiiiice kit and you only hardly get paid enough to buy any more of it!
If you're not feeling that they'll increase your wages, but you enjoy doing the job, then maybe you could just go back to using their kit. That could be a good choice if, after you've asked for your increase, explained all your reasons, and they still don't want to increase your share.
It'd be much better for your kit to sit at home (no wear and tear, no chance of it breaking, etc.) and then you can bring it out for YOUR shows, or maybe for when your boss has an important show, wants to make a good impression and is willing to pay for the use of it.
Just another option.
Good luck.

Wow, reading this I was amazed! When I hire someone as an assistant, I pay them for what they do. Times when I've had someone help me from start to finish, I mean loading up, set up, tear down, and back to the storage to put away the equipment, plus played half the set. I felt like that earned him half the money for the gig. All the equipment mine. (that didn't matter)
Now my partner on the other hand (on a few occassions didn't agree) But I'm not the kind of person to take advantage of people that way. I believe in paying a person their worth for what they've done.
You my friend really need to have a sit down and discuss payment terms.
IMHO, if I didn't get a satisfactory response, I'd have to move on, I'd find my own style of MC'ing, get better with it. (You already have the rest of what you need, equipment and so forth.) Rather than continue to allow myself to be pretty much 'played' like she is playing you, I'd have to exit stage left. (as snagglepuss would say)
Good luck with that situation. I'd be curious to know the outcome.

You are being ripped off, used and abused!!!
you should be getting about 70% of that gig since you are bringing most of your equipment and the music is yours. No matter how good she is on the mic, you can do the same with practice but one thing is sure: no one will dance or bop their head without your music. Start getting paid my friend. Remember one thing, once all the protocols are done, you make or break the wedding with your music selection. If it ain't good, you better bet your top $ that she will never invite you to dj another wedding with her.
You are the front man, the"make it happen guy". I used to hate djs who will just take anything just to play music and undermine everyone else. Stay home and play your music or go out there to Get paid what you are worth!!!!
