Topic: So I changed my set up

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I\'ve bought a few items so I can start doing parties but now when I place the music when I add music to another platter when music is playing already on the other, the sound drops. Anyone have this happen or know why it does?

I have 2 amps, crossover, eq but not hooked up yet and my RMX with 2 tops and bottoms. All while I use VDJ.

I mean what can be different? Everythign is still the same, I just added amps, crossover and speakers. I have the same set up jut not using studio monitors. Nothing really has changed but added power.

At some point you may have changed your sound settings in VirtualDJ, or maybe they were never set correctly in the first place but didn't notice so much when playing through your previous setup (Especially if you were at home playing through PC speakers)? The settings could have also changed if you have re-installed/updated VirtualDJ or the RMX's drivers.

Please verify that your sound settings match the settings on the above link exactly, in particular the drop-down that selects which sound card output is master and which is headphones.

Also, make sure that you have connected to the correct outputs on the back of the RMX. Outputs 1&2 are for the master output. 3&4 are the headphone output (These are provided should you wish to run in external mixer mode with a traditional hardware DJ mixer.)

If the problem happens intermittently and/or if you use another music source (E.g: iPod plugged directly into your sound system), then it may be a problem with the sound system itself (Not connected properly, faulty cable/equipment, amps not powerful enough to drive all those speakers (Especially true if you find the problem happens as you start to crank up the volume.))

Staff member read my mind. It is as simple as an update to you're computer. I had an issue with my source button months back. I don't know how the update slipped through my fingers but it took me several days to figure it out...

I don't know why, but since before, I had used either RCA or 1/4" jacks straight to the studio monitors from the RMX it was working fine. That was just 2 lines, now I have to do 4. Now I think there may be some kind of feed back or something since now I have highs and lows. Had to do some trial and error but so far it's working perfectly with just the highs (2 lines).

Settings are correct & I have all updates.

I am going to take everything apart this weekend and see what happens.

Thanks!

You should only have two going out from the back of the RMX to the inputs of your powered amp (Or speakers if they are active powered.) If you have more than one amp, most will have a 'thru' feature to pass the left/right audio signals through to a second, third, etc. amp. The same for most powered PA speakers. If you have tops and subs, then the crossovers in the speakers themselves will ensure that the correct frequencies are output from them.

Alternatively, you could run one set of speakers via the RCA outputs 1&2 and the other set via the 1/4" jacks. However, you should bear in mind that RCA and 1/4" jacks will have different output signal levels, so you will need to adjust the volume on your amps appropriately to compensate.

If you were using 4 cables then this means that you probably had one set plugged into outputs 1&2 (master) and the other into 3&4 (headphones), which is why you were having this problem. Depending on your headphone mix and volume knob settings, the master track volume will reduce as you load a song on the other deck and your headphone pre-listening switches over to it. It also means that you would be hear your pre-listening on the live output.

Thaaaaaank yoooouuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will work on it this weekend, my new horns and diaphrams just came in today.

It also looks like you have a mixer on top of one of the speakers next to your can of OLD ENGLISH 800 brew LOL. I would send the signal from the RMX thru the mixer to the amps & speakers = more control/better sound. I also have a RMX, it sounds ok just using its output but much better thru a mixer. The mics also sound better thru the mixer.

I agree with justnyce. I thought that's how everyone hooked it up..... Plus I also have two cd players plugged in for backup.
