Topic: Mac version not seeing database

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I use my Mac boot camped with Windows 7 for normal DJing. I also have the Mac version installed. All my mp3s and videos are on an external hard drive, but, the Mac version cannot see the database. Is this because the drive is formatted for Windows 7?

I have been thinking that when version 8 is released I may switch to the Mac version for normal DJing as the Mac version now has the graphics plugins that i use on the PC side. I know that the hard drive will need to be reformatted so the Mac can use it. That's provided that The Mac version 8 is the same as the PC version. Can anyone shed any light?

Hi Les,

Please see here: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Use%20external%20drive%20on%20Windows%20and%20Mac.html

There is also software available from the mac side that will allow access to Windows formatted drives and vice versa.

I have tried running both Mac & PC versions of VDJ on the same machine and it's a nightmare. Apart from the differences in formatted drives you also have the issue of different file path structures too, so your playlists will either work on one side or the other. It's a mess!

Thanks Keith,

I still carry my previous 500gb hard drive with me as a backup. Been thinking maybe I should re-format it for Mac & PC use just to play around with (and is still a backup).

I still carry 22,000 karaoke songs on my 1tb hard drive but have never used them. Haven't done karaoke for about 8 years, and that was only Christmas parties. Got them all on another 500gb hard drive that stays at home.

Think I need a spring clean and a bit tiding up :-)

Cheers
Les
