Topic: Cueing Not Working

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

The issue is I can hear the track I'm cueing through the master output, even though the fader is on the opposite side. So suppose I have track A playing, and I want to cue track B. Even though the fader is on track A, I can still hear track B (though it sounds a little muddy and the volume is lower). If I turn the cue volume down all the way, I can't hear it on the master or through my headphones. I tried using an audio interface and a y cable that came with my DJ controller (Stanton SCS3) and both of them are giving me the same results. Am I missing something really simple?

It's a newbie question, but I couldn't find any answers anywhere!

hmm depends, to me it sounds like you have setup the audio settings wrong. If you want to use the computerspeakers (dont use the external audiointerface), there are a lot more configurations to be done:
Input: None
Output: Headphones
Soundcard: 4.1 (if you got one)
If you do have a 4.1 audiointerface in ur computer, headphones goes into one Output, speakers into an other Output. May need some Realtek configurations (software that comes with 4.1 audiointerfaces).

If using the external audiointerface you mentioned (which one do you got btw?), plugin the USB into the computer, Speakers into Master output, Headphones into the headphonejack.
Input: None
Output: Headphones
Soundcard: Your Audiointerface (sometimes it shows up under Asio).

I tried all of those things, and I'm getting the same issue. My soundcard came with my laptop, so I only have one output. But I'm using a Y cable so that it can send two different outputs. The headphones portion works fine, I can hear the song I'm cueing. But I can hear it out of the master as well (though it's not as loud). I'm starting to think it's a laptop problem :/

I don't think you did try them all - because if had tried using your external audio interface for one output and the computer output for the other, you would have no issues.

Forget the splitter cable and using a single output. Do the job properly and either set it up with two outputs as I wrote above - or better still get yourself a sound interface with enough outputs!

You may also have a CUE/MAIN mix set part way. This would also introduce the "CUE" deck into the mix if you have your sound output wired incorrect. Also check that your windows setting don't have effects turned on. I have seen these on by default, just for the headphone jacks.
