Hi all,
I have recently purchased Virtual dj pro version and installed it on 2 laptops, which are both new and not used on the net. I am having a sound problem with one of the laptops. I am using a 4x way phono lead and splitting the sound into 2 channels on my mixer. Deck 1 into Ch1 Deck 2 into ch 2 on my mixer..my issue is when i play Deck 1 the sound is coming out not only on my ch 1 but ch 2 and vice versa..I have checked and checked the settings in config against my other laptop which is fine..To clarify in the sound set up is selected:
INPUT - none
OUTPUT - external mixer
SOUNDCARD - mono separated
The problem laptop is Windows 7 and the laptop working fine is Vista, not sure if this is the problem..The guys at Virtual havent been able to help me with this so im hoping someone out there can..
Kind Regards

You can't run two decks out separately to two channels on a mixer using the built in sound card on a laptop - there aren't enough channels.
If you want to do it properly, buy yourself an ASIO sound card with two stereo outputs. Then you can send deck one to channels 1&2 and deck two to channels 3&4 and it'll all be in stereo.

Sounds like the splitter you have isn't splitting to two seperate mono channels, instead, it's sending the stereo channel down both outputs. These splitters are more common as they let two people listen to the same Mp3 player, each with their own set of headphones.
You'll want one more like this:

Where you see it is splitting to two channels, left and right.

Hey guys, thanks for your feedback. Yes im baffled as the leads im using are fine in my Acer laptop. I have played 3 gigs so far and no issues. Im using the same mixer(behringer vmx1000) but with my Toshiba laptop(back up laptop) this issue with the sounds coming out of both channels. i have attached pic of the leads im using.
1-mini jack lead coming out of the headphone socket on laptop
2-The phono ends going into 2 x 3-way phono adaptors
3- which are connected to the 4 x way phono leads..
4- the 4 phono leads on the end are put into (2) into ch 1 and then (2) into ch 2 on my mixer..
two of my dj friends are using this same set up with no probs so im not sure what the issue is...is it something not ticked in the control panel..mmm..Hope someone can help..
Kind Regards

What a mess!
It'd be far better to buy a proper four channel (two channel stereo) sound card such as a MAYA 44 USB, and simply run the four phono cables out from that.
The way you're doing it now is not only messy and confusing, but you've only got mono sound!
Using an ASIO card will also give you higher quality audio and lower latency.

It's possible that the computer you are having problems with has some sort of virtual surround sound effect enabled on its headphone output. This gives you a surround sound effect when listening with headphones, which is great for watching movies, but not for DJ'ing where you need the outputs to be completely separate (The surround effect will result in some of the left sound being heard on the right and vice-versa.)
Check in your sound card's control panel to see whether you can disable this option and set it to plain stereo sound.
However, as above, for best results, you should ideally upgrade to a proper dedicated DJ sound card that has multiple outputs such as Numark DJIO, Maya44 USB, Hercules DJ Trim, etc. This will allow you to output the sound from each deck in stereo rather than mono. An external DJ sound card will also usually be higher quality than that built into your computer.
