I've got a new mid-2012 MacBook Pro with OS 10.8 (Mountain Lion), Denon MC6000 controller with latest firmware v1.012 and VirtualDJ Pro.

Overall Mountain Lion seems to work just fine with VDJ Pro as far as I can tell so far.

My question has to do with PFL and exactly what it's function is. I've read the user guide, I've read most of the forum posts on this subject and I still don't have a clue how it's supposed to work or what it's actual purpose is.

My configuration is as follows:

MC6000 is set to: Mac, Mixing Mode: Int Mix, Output Source: Ch 1/4
VDJ is configured to: Inputs:Line Ins, Outputs:External Mixer-Deck 1 Chan 1&2/ Deck 2 Chan 3&4, Sound Card: 4-In/4-Out Card-DN-MC6000
I'm using the VirtualDJ 7 (2-Decks): 1280x800
Cue/Master Pan is set to 12 o'clock, split cue button is off.

With a song playing on Deck A (left deck), if I click on PFL for that deck, it turns Blue. Nothing else happens as far as I can tell. Once the PFL button turns blue, right-clicking on it does nothing and in fact it doesn't turn off unless I click the PFL button for Deck B (right deck).

With a song playing on Deck A, if I then cue up a song in Deck B, and do nothing else put click the PFL button for Deck B, it turns Red. With the channel volume set to "0" for Deck B and starting to play it, I hear nothing in my headphones, until I turn on the Cue button for that channel. But once I've done that, turning PFL off has no discernible effect other than to move the waveform to the "top" for whichever Deck PFL is turned on for.

So what is the purpose of PFL? Does it have any bearing at all when using a 2-Deck skin?

I just don't get it. I get Cue buttons and they work as expected, but the PFL button is a complete mystery to me.

Could someone from VirtualDJ please respond to this?

PFL stands for Pre Fader Listening (or PRE FADE TO LISTEN). That means you can hear the channel no matter of the channels volume fader. When you tune up the volume the sound is routed to the main mix volume too. However, in Virtual DJ both PFL & CUE have the SAME NAME as each other, which would result in a conflict in the mapping. So the CUE button on the deck is normally named CUE and the CUE (PFL) button on the mixer section is named PFL to prevent conflict. Both CUE and PFL in the mixer section mean exactly the same thing.

If it's not working then it means that your sound is not setup properly. See below links to setup your soundcard correctly.

Have you tried clicking them? Or (if you're using a hardware controller) pressing them?
