Topic: Video output problem

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I have my main laptop all set up and outputting video just fine, now I'm setting up a second machine as a spare. This computer is a brand new HP dv6, Windows 7 machine and I clean installed the OS to remove bloatware & crapware. There are hardly any programs on it.
The video output shows very choppy, stalls and stills a lot. I expect it's a codec problem. Do you recommend I install ffdshow or similar?

Rightclick on the VirtualDJ Pro Full desktop icon and see if there an option to choose the nvidia graphics card. Then launch VirtualDJ and select that card in Config->Video tab. Make also sure you have hardware acceleration enabled in the same tab.

No option shows from the desktop icon, however that will be my problem, the Radeon HD6770M is not my selected video card. It shows up ok in Device Manager but the desktop monitor dettings and VDJ Video options etc. are all for the Intel card.
How do I activate the Radeon card then? Sorry, haven't had this happen before.

Search in www.hp.com. I believe there must be a BIOS update that fixes that, cant find the link at the moment. As far as i recall, the should be a BIOS setting for that or a setting in Catalyst.. i ll get more infos tomorrow.

Ah, Catalyst, that's right.
I tried to download & install that, but it says I have incompatable hardware/software on my machine, version of graphics adapter not supported, contact manufacturer for graphics driver update.
I ran an autodtect utility from HP website and it only found a few items needing updates like fingerprint id etc., no graphics info. Going round in circles now.

OK, I've got Catalyst Control Centre installed, (my incompatability problem apparently a known issue with this model), but I still haven't solved my output problem.
In Catalyst Control I have set VDJ as a program that uses Performance mode, (presumably the Radeon), but the Radeon doesn't show up in config>video as an output option, only Window and Intel.

In case anybody else has this problem, in BIOS I changed the Switchable Graphics from Dynamic to Fixed and now the 6770M shows up in the settings accessed by right clicking on the desktop.
Thanks.

I just fixed mine just like DJDAD said... right clicked on the desktop icon, then "Run with Graphics Processor" then High Performance NVIDIA processor. It worked for me on my new DV6 (I wish I had known this at my gig the other night). I took it one step further and changed my default setting to the High Performance NVIDIA processor... Now I can't wait to get the thing on a projector to test it out! (BTW, if you get one of the HP DV6 or 7's upgrade to the Solid State HD, my Vids from Promo Only mp4's load in about 3 seconds! this thing FLIES!!!)
