Hey all,
I am looking for the best video software to transfer Promo Only DVD's into MPEG4 files to use on VDJ PRO FULL.
I have been using Handbrake but my little iTunes videos have better playback visuals than Handbrake.
Thanks in advance.

i've always used the VDJ DVD ripper for our PO music videos and have almost never had issue with it ripping directly to .vob format. but when space is an issue and you need to convert to .mp4 video i prefer Freemake. controls are really simple and it has other uses as well.

i guess i didn't realize VDJ had DVD ripping software. Is that under the config tab of the opened software? How would i find that ripper?

I am also not that familiar with the .vob format. Is it superior to the mpeg4 and it is a format that works fine with VDJ?

Thanks...

Grreetings. I use DJ Extractor to convert the DVD to VOB files. http://lmoffice.com/DJExtractor/

This is because DJ Extractor downloads the Artist & Title names from the CSV files listed at Promo Only. You have to be careful because sometimes the Artist name gets screwed up if there is a "ft." in the title. Correcting that is a lot better then typing everything out.

Then I use Handbrake to convert to MP4. Make sure you use the option "fast de-interlace". You'll get quality MP4's that are hard to tell from the VOBs. http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php

Lately I have to go to Promo Only and download their database listing as a local CSV file. Then I modify the database to handle PowerSets and Ambient videos properly.

Promo Only has gotten a little lazy... and don't put in certain critical information anymore. (I've called numerous times). I have to now manually put in "PWR1, PWR2, PWR3" in the proper column & rows of the database for the PowerSets to combine into one file.

And for Hot Video I have to insert "AMB" in the proper column & rows for the Ambient videos to come out properly. I don't convert these to MP4.

Good Luck

VirtualDJ can rip both DVD's and vinyl. but it's not in the config tab - go to start menu>virtual dj> rip dvd or rip vinyl. some users have had mixed results with the ripper but it's worked fine for us.

the .vob format is full (native) DVD quality video output. if memory storage space is not an issue you can use it just fine. .mp4's will use less memory, but still have very good quality video if the source it has been taken from is good.

for a comparison of the various formats go here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_container_formats

yes it's annoying to have to type in the file names sometimes but i'd rather have it done correctly and take the time to make sure it's right.

had an afterthought - Freemake can and does rip HD video - including blu-ray and can convert to blu-ray if you're putting video mixes out for promotional use.
