Ok, first I must say that I loved my Hercules RMX but I like the analog mixing capability of the vms so I bought one to try it out.
The RMX was much simplier to get up and running. I've had isuues with the VMS almost every time I've tried to use it. Anyways, I have it running fine with music...here's my dilema. I thought I had all the bugs worked out and head to the bar to do karaoke..thinking that everything would work the same.
I hook up the external screen and load up a karaoke track...the karaoke track shows on the screen even with the volume all the way down. In the past I use a BACKDROP when a non video or non karaoke song is being played. There is actually an option in the video settings to use an EFFECT when a Audio-Only files. I prefer to not use the crossfader and only use the volume sliders. It has never been issue until the vms was hooked up.
When I click on the that option the backdrop comes up behind the karaoke track. In the past with my other controller, when the karaoke track was playing the back drop would disappear and then when i fade into a filler auido only song in between performances, the backdrop would come back up. Any suggestions? I have a feeling it could be due to the analog mixer...but I hope not
I know this seems confusing but if you have any suggestionns, please offer them. I'm usually pretty good at trouble shooting, but I have spent quite a few hours with it and no luck yet.

The problem is probable that the Hercules RMX was mapped to control the actual faders in VDJ while the VMS has a fake mapping to move the fader without actually changing anything within VDJ. You can change the mapping and remove the Fake in the fader.

thank you!! that fixed it...is there any issues I should be aware of by getting rid of the fake?

I'm sure someone with that controller will be here to help you. It seems as though you need to disable the crossfader. If you look at the lock on the left hand side of the video crossfader, is it checked?

What you re trying to do will not work.
VMS2 has a real analogue mixer (which sends midi signals though). Restore the mapper to its original settings (fake actions), and use the crossfader to mix video/karaoke
You may request though here.. http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/18/Wishes_and_new_features.html , the setting "Fade to black on volume sliders" to apply to the fake_level action as well, in future version.

thanks djdad...i think you are correct...what i want to do does not seem possible. i've changed settings...man and his music...i've done clicked every possible button. its a mapping issue because of the analog mixer and midi controls trying to talk together. seems so simple, but just beating my head against a brick wall.
If DJDAD is wrong...please post on here
Thanks again for all the info.
