Topic: How to clean laptop keyboard?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Depending on how bad its gunked up with grease and hair etc. I usually just replace them. There actually pretty cheap usually, sometimes a clean good used one is as low as $10 on ebay depending on your model. Other than that if its not to bad you can use a q-tip slightly damp with alcohol and gently work around the keys and blow out dirt as its loosened, working upside down. This sometimes can jam stuff in clumps under keys though.
You do not want to remove the keys, just trust me on that one, you'll end up probably buying another keyboard out of frustration trying to get them back on.

Never spray a laptop keyboard such as Samsung Laptop Keyboard with water. (common sense)

Your best tools are the vacuum cleaner, a can of compressed air (most computer stores and computer supply departments have them), and/or a brush (medium hardness).

Wet wipes are an option, but because the dirt is mostly cat hair, you best stick with dry cleaning methods.

In extreme cases (for example a certain key gets stuck all the time) you can carefully pry the key from the keyboard like the Lenovo Laptop Keyboard with a small screw driver, clean it and put it back. This can be tricky though, and some laptop keyboards do not even allow this at all.

or you can just do what a lot of others do, remove the keyboard, and being that most are "spill proof/waterproof" tape up the end of the data ribbon and bung it in the dishwasher...

simples..

I just do it the "gattaca" way.

for the price of Compressed AIR + time cleaning with a BRUSH/Alcohol wipes etc..., I think i can spare a brand new $8.00 keyboard.

I usually soak my whole lappy in a mixture of 50-50 bleach and water overnight....In the morning pull out and let dry appox. 3 hrs and you are good to go!....Hope that helps.....

i think its strange how people completely strip their keyboards and spend ages cleaning them.... but each to their own i suppose... ill stick to the 2 clips and bung it in the dishwasher method.
