Greetings all,
I just bought a ton of new WAV loops, and have an issue with playing them in any deck. I use the 4 deck default skin. The free ones from Promo Only have the same anomaly.
At the end of playing each loop in a deck, there is a pronounced "chirp" as the loop resets. It makes the loops useless to play in a "one shot" method because of this noise.
The same WAV loops work fine in the Sampler. They loop seamlessly. They "one shot" perfectly and there is no "chirp" at the end.
Yes, I can play them in the Sampler, but I give up pitch control, key adjust & effects functions like in a deck. VDJ Script might be the answer, but that project would be imense for me.
I thought it might have been my Sound Blaster X card, and bought a M-Audio Fast Track Pro. Still have the "chirp".
Is there anything I can do? Does anyone else have this noise?
Regards,
Jimmy

MORE INFO: It chirps with WAV files, but not with AIFF files. I got identical loop folders from this company in both WAV and AIFF. So the same sound plays well if it is AIFF. And the WAV file "chirps". Any ideas?

I would suggest reporting this as a bug to Atomix via the official route, so hopefully it will get addressed in the forthcoming VDJ8.
Also, I've been pleading with Atomix for ages now to give us the ability to use decks as samplers, so that it gives us a waveform, pitch control, FX and of course up to 99 decks/samples rather than just 12.
Traktor now has 64 sample slots in their new Remix Decks, so I hope Atomix do something.

Jimmy, did you try to play the WAV's in another program to make sure it's not in the WAV itself? Run into the same problem but for me it was in the WAV's, not VDJ.

He said they play OK in the sampler, just not in the decks.

a couple of the vengeance producer packs I have are distorted when playing in vdj, I think it's because they are recorded too loud and make the tracks distort.
If you can set a loop on the sample when it's loaded on a deck and record into the sampler. you should be able to cut the end off where the glitch is.

Rats !!! I just found out that the VDJ Sampler does not play AIFF files. The Decks do. Why not the Sampler?
So now it looks like I have to keep one copy of WAV Loops & Samples that play in the Sampler, and another set of identical AIFFs that play well in the Deck.
Hopefully there will be a fix that addresses the "chirp" when playing WAV files in a Deck? That way we can all use Loops & Samples in one format. .. WAV
My VDJ Support ticket number is: 183686

if you record them into the sampler they are wav files with extra metadata for syncing. the vdj file will play on a deck no problems.

Not much use when he's got "a ton" of them though......
Better to tackle the problem at the root rather than use a workaround. :-)

Hmmm... so AIFF loop and sample files play fine. Identical WAV files "chirp" at the end of play. This happens on my PC with 2 different sound cards. One being the M-Audio which is no cheepie. It also happens on my laptop.
Response from VDJ Technical:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From VDJ point of view we can't fix that.
It seems to be related with the files itself and/or soundcard.
Sorry
Kind regards

Oh... and the WAV files loop perfectly in the Sampler. They only "chirp" when playing in a deck. I don't get it.
Does anyone else have this problem?

The chirp is data stored in the file that vdj is trying which results in the "chirp " I believe.

If it was a data issue in the sound file, I would hear that error when playing it in the Sampler. But these WAV files play perfectly when looped in the Sampler.
The "chirp" comes when the deck resets after playing the clip. And why don't I have the "chrip" in AIFF files. The WAV & AIFF loops are identical from the vendor.
I don't get it. I'm curious if anyone else has this problem. Just play a 4/8 count WAV loop file in a deck. Does it "chirp" when it reverts back to the beginning?

OK then............but in my research it's data. Don't know Why it doesn't happen with the sampler, good question for the dev time.....

Another issue. This one really has me scratching my head.
One of the loop packs I purchesed from PLP is called Ambient Space. It came as a ZIP file which I expanded into a folder.
All looks normal. But the audio has a problem.
In VDJ it "hisses" loudly with the audio content slightly audible. It happens with both the WAV & AIFF files.
But play these in Windows Media Player they are fine. I don't get it.
I opened one in Adobe Auditon and it plays fine. I saved it as a WAV and opened it up in a VDJ deck. "Hisssssssssss"
This just doesn't make sense. All the other packs I bought work fine.
Why do these play fine in WMP and Auditon but not in VDJ?

The bitrate is higher then what VDJ can handle. When I export a track at like 96k (studio quality ) I get the same thing with VDJ........

Then VDJ should reject it.
There should be a warning message or something.
It shouldn't be possible to just load it to a deck, press play and get a SSSSHHHHH sound at hundreds or thousands of watts over your speakers, to possibly cause damage to an expensive sound system....or your (or clients) ears.

When comparing files:
WAV: Just says using WAV deocder in file info. I'll have to explore further with more time.
AIFF GOOD ONEs: PCM_S16be , 1378 kbps
AIFF BAD ONEs: PCM_S24be , 2067 kbps
Thanks for the insight. Perhaps I can salvage this $19 purchase by converting "down" these 100 or so loops. I'll try tonight.
