please help, I have vdj7 an a hercules rmx (not the fastest of laptops) but the problem i am having is as follows. I just recently added about 32 gigs of music to my external. when i have vdj running and i load songs from the hard drive on the laptop they load fine. when i load from the folder of my external hard drive it takes a really long time to load, if it even loads at all. it eventually after trying 7 or 8 songs will make the whole program lag. i have had problems w this kind of lagging before for example the gain buttons have to be readjusted after every load. but have just learned how to deal w that. but this not loading songs isnt cuttin it. i have my latency setting all the way down but still having problems. can anyone help?

I once purchased a Hercules VMS4 and returned it to the placed whaere I purchased it. A different salesperson than who I purchased it from told me that Hercules DJ Controllers were frequently returned. He suggested the Mixtrack Pro, and I brought it. I noticed an immediate improvement upon using it. I upgraded to Virtual DJ Pro software and am pleased. You might waant to tryu a differen controller to see if this fixes the problem. take your laptop to the store and try and see if trying different controllers will fix thr problem.
 
It's possible that the external drive could be failing. First, make sure that you have a full backup of all the files on it (Unless they are already backed up elsewhere) and then run scan disk on it choosing the option to scan for bad sectors.

It could also be a USB bandwidth issue, especially if you have connected the drive via a USB hub along with other equipment.

If it's a really old laptop, it may have USB 1.x ports, which will be very slow for loading files, especially videos.

Virtual DJ is no longer loading the contents of my external hard drive as I once did after adding 15-20 video files. I can open the files on the computer & drag them into VDJ & they work fine but when I click on the external drive on the far left in VDJ, it shows the drive but won't expand or open any of the files as it once did. Has this ever happen to anyone else? Can someone please help me with this?
