Topic: Re-scan Files Again...???

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi everyone,

I down loaded a video editor yesterday to edit a few of my video files.

Once done I opened VDJ and got a dialog tell me to run a fix which I did.
I then notice that all my files came up yellow tell me that now I needed to re-scan all my files.

Half done today but wanted to know how could this happen so fast to these many files.
I also notice that all my cue point were missing too.

Is there a file (s) which keep this information which went bad...???

I'm sure there must be because I can't understand now this can happen so fast.

Please let me know if there is a file and if so where VDJ keeps it.

I may have backed this up and may be able to restore all my cue points back.

Thanks

BTW: This is the first time anything like this happen since I got VDJ two years ago. I'm very sure that this editor (which I uninstall) cause this problem.

Thanks Keith...

I did do a backup a couple of months ago...

I hope these are the files I backed up...

Thanks again for this information which
will become very handy in the future if not this time...

:)

Keith,

One last question...

Do you know which file contains scan and cue point information...

I check the backup I have from a few months ago.

I backed up the VirtualDJ directory onto another external Hard drive but
I'm not able to fine which file have the cue points and scan information.

I looked at VirtualDJ Database v6.xml but while it had some information in it I'm not sure if this is the file I need to replace.

This file is the only one I see which has yesterdays date when I had re-started to re-scan and re-cue a few of my music sets...

The only two files which any changes yesterday are

>>> VirtualDJ Database c6.xml (which both the save and the new one looked too small) 45KB
>>> tracklist.txt which looks bigger but I think this is for the history.

Just asking because I want to make sure this time and for the next time I know which files really need backing up.

Thanks

Yes, it is the VirtualDJ Database v6.xml file you need, just replace that to your user> documents> VirtualDJ folder and that's it.

I'm assuming you don't use an external hard drive and keep all your songs on the C drive.

No I do use an external hard drive and did find the file which I should of backed up... :(

This new file shows all the scans I did last night and is 10,525 kb so far...

Thanks Keith again. Now I really know which file I need to back up.
I will check tonight if by chance I backed up this file last week onto my other hard drive.
I found this file to be on the root of my external hard (E:\)

Now I know better...

I also check to see where VDJ is told to create and use that file on the root of the external hard drive but wasn't find it under the options dialog...

CadDog, I don't about anyone else, but I just back up the entire VJ folder. It only takes a couple minutes and its the easiest way for me.

Same here bro!

Saw that coming Keith and you beat me to it... A permanent backup to the cloud is the best way. Either with DropBox, SkyDrive, Google Drive or any other cloud backup program will work just as well... Just so long as it's real time and requires no user interaction.

Cheers,

Roy

I wish it was an industry standard that all Dj software store cue points and such in the tag. I love the database but hate it at the same time. Lol!! The whole having to re scan is dreadful and I would hate to have to do it all over again. Plus some of us use different programs and it's a pain setting up the same cue points twice sometimes 3 times.......

A guy can dream cant he.......
