Topic: NEED A DJ NAME :/

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I know alot of people ask on these forums for a Dj name but I really need ideas. Ive tried different variations of my name but it doesn't sound like a good name, i know a good name doesn't make you known, its all about your talent. I just need a good name to put in my mixes I have already created. Im more focused on creating mixes that include electroninc, house, dutch, pop, dubstep, and moombathon

I dont know if this would help but my name is Luis , live in Dallas and also somethings I like are llike Arizona's, Gloving/light shows, anything electronic wise, art that is like on tumblr and random stuff.

I appreciate it alot if you can help me out. :)

i suggest just say what you do and who you are...

mixman luis , DJ luis .....that'll work

don't take yourself or the job that serious.....

we're not cutting edge surgeons, we're not dog handlers on a search and rescue team .....

we're not Pulitzer Prize winners ....... just have some fun with the music

a sure fire way to make yourself look bad is to take yourself too serious.....

please ..... no pictures with the arms folded glaring at the camera .....

no Hollywood poses , no dorky finger points and gestures ......

just be yourself , and try to get better , a little bit everyday

why bother having a dj name in the first place???

ive considered so many names over time the only one i actually felt was worth being recognised and talked about for was just my real name.

i dont need a funky or catchy dj name to catch peoples attention, my skill speaks for itself.

i have friends in the industry who have "dj names" but dont know the first thing about music theory, or how to mix just about any genre, people think for example.. using a sudoname, oh wow dj dirty hardcore.... what a name.. that guy must be able to mix... when in fairess he cant mix for his supper because the only thing he can mix is one genre of hardcore by angerfist and such likes... which in fairness is about the easiest thing to mix cuz even if you screw up it dont sond any different ....

when i step up to the plate under my own name and spin, be it house partys, online or sets that ive put out on cd, the name people talk about is my own. people get to know me for being "me", not for being a made up name that possibly someone else came up with.

DJ Louis V

Keep it real... ;-)

Not sure I completely agree. If you are purely mobile you need a "roadshow" or "mobile disco" name otherwise you cannot advertise your services.

If you DJ at events or on the radio you need to be recognised on the line up for posters and promo materials. Some DJ's use their real names, but most have a name of sorts, even if it's just a name abbreviation.

I have been "Soundchaser" for almost 30 years, it started as my roadshow name but I know use it for events, club nights and radio - luckily it crossed over.

You talk about skills speaking for themselves, so how do people talk about you? That DJ with the Skills? That guy that DJ's in "insert club name" has great skills...

If been told my mixing is "on point" in many occasions, but I doubt it ever gets talked about after they leave the club.

Cheers,

Roy

fair points made there roy, but as i see it people will remember a persons real name just as easily as any other name, people will talk about and recognise you no matter what you call yourself is what im trying to put across, maybe not in the best fashion as it was quite late when i posted, and i was rambling a bit, but hopefully you see where im coming from.

in respect of the "roadshow" name for advertising purposes, you can indeed advertise your services with your own name what if you advertised as "joe bloggs entertainment" "jane doe discos" etc..??

you also dont need a "dj name" to be put on a poster ;) your first and last names will suffice ;)

as for people talking about you, they would use "your" name..... so im kinda missing the whole point in parts of your post, your name for yourdj name is just as good or better than something which was made up or forwarded by someone else.

its a common occurace for people to come on the forums and say "i need a dj name" i just dont personally see the need for one when i already have a name i can use without putting tons of thought into it.

I'd say just Louie V, but that sounds like you're a regular on the Jersey Shore.

I don't like it when people put DJ in front of anything. Just way too 'average'.

Some people have the real name that makes them popular, and don't need the DJ prefix. People will know what you do if you do it good.

Hello this is Mixing Arizona and I will be your DJ for the Evening

Let the Dallas Dubstep take you on a journey this evening

DJ LDOA is rocking the house tonight (LDOA = Luis Dallas of Arizona)

Like stated above just have some fun. Pick something that means something to you.

My name is DJ Omaggio. Why Omaggio? Omaggio in the music term means From the Beginning or At the Head of. I picked this name because I will be your DJ from the Beginning of your party or event. I was a DJ from the Beginning of my time, etc, etc.

My advice is to get a few of your closest mates around, sink a few beers, and write down every half-decent dj name that pops up. From this list decide on your favourite, wait a few days and then see if you still like it.
Repeat as necessary.
