Topic: Quality vs Latency

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hey guys.

I've always been jealous of DJs who can afford or who work it actual CDJs, because of the way you press CUE or PLAY and they instantly do what they're told. I'm using a Numark Mixtrack Pro with VDJ, and my VDJ settings are set to Quality, in order to avoid good mixes with bad sound quality.

What I want to know is: if I set my preferences to Latency, is it really going to make that much of a difference? As it is right now, I could press CUE all I wanted right before pressing play, but it's still going to take a 'while' (in terms of microseconds) before it actually plays, which means the beat will not be synced at all.

On the other hand, I don't want to set it to Latency, then record an entire mix, and find out the quality's sub-par.

Thoughts?

latency Vs quality will only matter if you are scratching... I think it gives vdj the option of overriding one or the other when your cpu is stressed.

In regards to latency you want it set around 8 - 12ms on a standard dual core 4gb 2.4ghz system but that is incredibly fast, if you divide one second by 833.33' you have 12ms, if you try to count to it your throat wouldn't be able to make the sound to start before the time had passed... sorry to say but it's probably your timing that needs improvement ;-)
