Topic: Getting better search results in VDJ

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Music database over 55,000 titles.

I love VDJ. It does so much more than previous software I've owned and used. Just one beef - I still have to open iTunes and use it as a search tool for VDJ. I then drag the song onto a VDJ deck and it loads. Very cool. The search in iTunes is; in my opinion, awesome. I can search part of any of these to produce results:
artist or title or genre or album - in any order, even partial words

In VDJ, if I type:
Flo-Rida - I get several hundred titles. Over 100.

And if I search:
"Flo-Rida Good Feeling" - no results in VDJ, whereas iTunes nails it, showing the 8 or so versions I have in my library.

Is there a tweak or anything I can do to alter the search in VDJ to perform "more fuzzy" (similar to iTunes)?

Or does anyone else have issues with how VDJ search performs? If so, how are you solving this issue? I'm trying to avoid opening iTunes or any other app to find titles. Are there keyboard functions to better search results (" or % or *)? But not just wildcards on a single field, multiple...

They've fixed this in VDJ 8.

I know it's a bit late coming. I've asked for this myself in the past.

At the moment the only way to get results based on two or more criteria is to create filter folders.

If your files are named with all the relevant information then you could add filename as one of the searchable fields.

I have tried a few different options, long story short, just like the OP I have found the search engine to be lacking as well. I often seem to get nothing and it goes straigt to Netsearch due to small mispelling, etc. Or I get tons of results none of which are what I was looking for. More often than not, being in the wrong iTunes play list in VDJ seems to limit my searchable items and if the song is not in there, I can back out and select "iTunes" (whole library) and do the same search, I will find my song.

I know it is not supposed to, but it really does. Just have not had time during a show to take all kinds of screen shots to prove it. At this point, all I can say is the search engine is just not very forgiving. I can deal with more responses and sort by different items in the browser. What I hate is when VDJ finds everything but...

I do look forward to VDJ 8. Till then, my spelling is crap especially in the middle of a busy set. I deffinately agree that iTunes always finds my song with very little fuss.

Even multiple search fields are still unavailable, when looking for tracks by the title and artist I allways used the * between the words and the results come easy. My search fields are Artist, Title, FilePath, Album, Genre,Year, BPM
Of course, an organized library is the key to a good search. I take care when dealing with file names and Id3 tags. I have personal standards to name my files, and all files have the id3 fields filled - not all fields, just the ones I use to search.

Example: RIDA*FEEL
results
Flo Rida - Good Feeling (all versions and remixes)
Flo-Rida - Good Feeling (all versions and remixes, note the "-" on the artist name)
Three 6 Mafia feat. Tiƫsto, Sean Kingston & Flo Rida - Feel It (all versions and remixes)

i kept field's like artist title playcount rating & checked search in folder/ drive's in my search option
most of my search come's through file name bcoz all my file named in that field
