I set up my friend's database with several virtual folders. After he used it a while, the folders disappeared. I don't know what he did. I opened up his database file and the folders are still there. His browser setting is checked to show Virtual Folders as well.
In another forum post there was a comment made about looking for blank spaces in the database file somewhere in the virtual folder definition. Upon examination I found no such spaces. However, I did find that most of his database file is nothing more than empty lines. I assume these were caused by repetitive Check / Clean operations on the database as he changed his folder structure on the hard drive. However, I don't think this was the cause of his problems. I was hoping someone might be able to provide additional hints to disappearing virtual folders.
BTW, I figured the blank lines were unnecessary and after deleting them the file was 75% smaller. Now I am tempted to go into my file and do the same thing. My database has twice the number of songs but fewer blank lines. I figure the smaller file will load quicker. Does anyone else do this?

Maybe he has moved or renamed the files outside of VirtualDJ.
The files in the virtual folders won't show up if VirtualDJ cannot find any of the files in them.

Also, see: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/I%20get%20an%20error%20message%20saying%20that%20my%20database%20is%20corrupted.html
NOTE: In older versions of the software there was a bug that could sometimes cause files to disappear from virtual folders in certain circumstances, but this was fixed some time back. Providing that he is running an up-to-date version of the software then he shouldn't have this problem. If he is running an older version, then he needs to upgrade: http://www.virtualdj.com/download/updates.html

That wasn't it. There are no corruption error messages. The folders just don't show up. We both use version 7.04. I have done the Check/Clean operation so many times on his PC. I think that was why there were all the blank lines. I guess I needed to hit the Fix button but it wasn't obvious what that did. I thought it was just for corruption issues. I now see it removed all the blank lines and reduced the file size. I will have my friend try the same thing.

The blank space is normal and won't normally cause any problems. This blank space is created by either deleting or changing files in the database and will be reused by new database entries.
It's possible that this has got corrupted at some point though, which is why it was not working and 'Fix' resolved it (This checks the database consistency and repairs it if necessary.) It will also remove any blank space as a result of this operation.
