hey guys and gals...
I am torn right now.... I feel a little complacent with my djing and want to mix it up.... My thoughts were saying just use the HD2500 as your main music source and use VDJ as a backup and odd ball request here and there... that is until I get the MC6000...... The thing I really dislike the most is that most of my tracks were ripped prior to me getting various subscriptions to different audio sources when I was younger so my tracks have all different kinds of levels so I have to use Sound Forge to edit the volumes and silence and such within a given track.... Problem is I still have more music I should be working on putting into proper cases and tags to edit.... It takes me 3 to 4 days to get a proper playlist done on the HD2500 and the volumes are still not the way I like it so there is no sound drops...
What do you guys and gals think.... Should I just keep going forward with the 2500 or just go back to VDJ Completely and use the 2500 as a controller... I still will be using Excel at shows for certain playlist's that I create if I have not created them already.....

I would deffinetly keep moving to all digital. VDJ can scan your library and set the levels for you, just make sure you have Auto Gain set to Auto+Remember under the options tab in config. Then you won't have to worry about the levels. If your using upfaders instead of a crossover, you should be used to working with different levels off of CD anyway.
Playlists are much easier to work with then excell sheets.
Plus think of all the stuff you won't have to carry around.
You may want to consider re-ripping your audio, it may be faster. Any time you re-encode an mp3, you loose quality.

As it is now I do not carry much gear.... On average I bring the following Combo Rack, Amp Rack with DMX Controller, 2 X PV118's, 2 X SRM450, Facade/ Speaker/ Lighting Stands in 1 Bag, Wire Tote, Either 4 Bar or Elan/ O-Beast/ Vue 3/ Fallout (Those 4 on T-Bar Already) and my Laptop....
It is just that I am not sure which way to go.... I honestly love using VDJ probably more than most cause I have too much passion for music... I mean I can be listening to some great top 40 stuff and then change to Death Metal and then next Big Band Era.... I just feel like I am in a rut if that makes any sense... I wish there was a simple way to explain it.... I feel like it's the same thing at every gig right now.... I know the HC4500 is the same as the HD2500 except for the on board Hard Drive and the Display is a little different... I am just thinking maybe I am not happy with the 2500 and need to swap over to say the 4500 and then wait a little bit long to get into videos? I just don't know....
All I know is I am kind of stuck in a funk as I call it and not sure what I need to get out of it... Maybe the next few weeks might bring me back... I have been outta the loop with Parties and Weddings... Last week really started my season off with a friends birthday party cause this Sat and next I have 2 events....

Hello Dj Spynn
I understand how you feel and here is how i deal with it. I mainly do mobile gigs and once in a while do guest spots at clubs. I stick to the southside west of Chicago because it is closer to home, no cover at most places and the drinks are cheaper :). For some reason the people on the southside will not let go of the classic house, high energy or freestyle music. Yes at times i get tired of spinning that music but as a Dj I beleive it is not about what I like or want it is about me making sure the people have a good time and dance. That is where i get my satisfaction from. I beleive a good Dj is a selfless dj, that we understand our audiance and cater to them. That is where you will your success.
When i am at home spinning, I play the music i want to hear or mess around with. I will record a mix and listen to it in my car. Another option to is to seek the audiance that likes the kind of music you want to spin. Yes new equipment is nice and can inspire you for a little while but I think this post is a little deeper than that.
I hope this helps
Respectfully, Dj VooDoo

Hi Voodoo... Thanks for the kind words...
Yes I think it was deeper the other day when I posted it... At times I think I am just a little depressed at how saturated the market is with DJ's.. I have a good friend of out here in Southern MA and I look up him like I used to look up to my uncle who passed away... My uncle was the one who go me started DJing with 45 and we used to bring 5000 song selections and my uncle knew everyone...
I think I am just wishing I had more work than I do right now so I could justify spending money... I ended up having to get a paper route and do that 7 days a week just to make sure I have enough money to pay the bills... I mean I have DJ jobs but not like last year... I did close to 30 weddings and this year I only have maybe 10 so far... When I see that I get disappointed and my wife tells me not too...
She is my biggest fan and without her I would not be where I am right now... I used to be that DJ that went out and basically pimped himself out for $25 bucks of gas money cause everything was spent on Rentals... Now I charge between $300-500 for a Basic event up to $4000 for a high end wedding... I never thought I would even get that much ever.... I think it also has to do with I see what my Friend has and get jealous of what he has and does.... So my wife has to put me in my place sometimes and it could be from that as well...
I honestly think I just need to do some soul searching and just put purchasing things on hold... The biggest thing I want to get to finish my lights off is a set of moving heads that someone is selling for $400 and my wife is telling me to stop I just got new ones from christmas and I try to explain that they are part of the same series of lights so I can make a Club or higher end lighting package to make more money....
Maybe it is just that I want too much from my business and it is just not there yet...
