I was wondering what other people have their buttons on their midi controllers used for? and example VDJscript if possible?

I'm at the level of competent with VDJ and a hercules RMX, but was wondering what to do next to improve?

I notice some of you (from youtube videos) have phasers/distort bound to buttons/knobs and was wondering what you recommend playing with?
