Topic: What gear do you regret purchasing the most? - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

I'm sure alot of people have bought something based off of a good review or a friends recommendation, only to have it turn out to be not what they expected. What do you regret buying, and what was the issue with it? Do you still have the gear or did you sell/toss it out/give away/replace it with something else?

THe American Audio VM4, I went by the Video's Ad's and the Feature list.

Haha, I saw the topic and my VMS4 came immediately to mind. Looks like I was beaten to it!

Their forum is swamped with complaints, even with the new 4.1 version.

by far the VMS4

vms4 & vms4.1

I regret spending money on a Cycloops DJ sampler a few years back. Not that there was anything particularly wrong with it - it was solidly built and did what it said on the tin. I was running PCDJ Red at the time, and it was a fun add-on to my system. Unfortunately I discovered VDJ a few months later, leaving it redundant!

Lots of hating with the VMS4 I see. Have the bugs not been ironed out in the new version then?

VMS4 is the worst one. I could solve most of my issues and use external mixer for the mic, and sound signal coming from the VMS4

Using the unit once a month

Looking for something new but can't decide
Pioneer DDJ-S1, NS6, Numark Mixdeck Quad, Gemini CDMP700
last two units are not on sale yet in my country so i'll wait

I purchased a Numark ICDMIX 3 in December which hasn't worked right from the start. The left CD deck skips and sometimes doesn't load properly. Obviously a design problem because I have read that others are having the same problem.

A little tip from somebody who repairs these things for a living - It's probably the cable from the CD mech to the board sitting at the wrong angle. Undo the screws around the sides, just below the metal faceplate, and lift the lid on the unit (carefully, the cables joining the top half to the bottom half are not very long!), and you'll see the two transport units. On the left unit, you'll see a cable coming from under the mech up to the control board. Try bending it down and out of the way, giving more room for the CD transport to move around freely. I've seen this issue on the CDMIX-1 and CDMIX-2, and I dare say the ICDMIX-3 is no different in this respect.

VDJ! I think that's an acronym for Virtual Dj...
Why? Because It's the best darn DJ software I've used!

Really:
Numark Omni- Too small for my giant hands
Prodigy fx- Poor customer service. Poor internal build. one deck crapped out. I had to literally beat it to load cds.
Various AIO setups- one thing goes out, the whole thing is worthless.

returned them all...

Numark NS7.

didn't like it at all, and software/driver support was very bad. sold it after 6 months

not to mention the 2 loud fans in the back

Nobody will ever hear the fans live. Not even on quiet slow songs.

But I agree, I should never have bought the NS7. Looks like a big boy toy and that gets respect. But it is such a resource hog that I just can't get a low enough ASIO buffer (latency). That, plus the drift when used with VDJ and I have no hope at learning to scratch with this thing. I just loose patients and quit, which is not me at all. So basically, I have an 80lb basic midi controler. Frustrating really.

Plus I had to build a desktop PC just because the MIN spec processor for the NS7 is 2.4ghz. The BEST Mac book Pro was only 2.6ghz last year.. Which is fine if you are ok with close to min spec and 512 ASIO buffer (can't scratch at all).

It just made my setup too complicated for no reason. Now it takes 10 extra min just to lay out and hook up all the cables for the desktop. A laptop would be WAY better.

I really don't know where to go next either to get rid of the drift and lower the latency to at least 128.. and still be able to mix Video. I know Itch will have Video soon, but I just hate the NS7 when I use Itch. It feels SO limited! CDJs and a mixer?? Time code?? Hoping this year brings some better toys.

DHoude: Have you thought about the ns6- sounds like you had issues with the ns7, but without the moving jogwheels the ns6 might be a more suitable choice and still look good.

My biggest buying regret was buying a Kam duel CD player back in 2002/2003. After 2 or 3 hours playback would start skipping! Hahaha - not good! Apparently it was probably the laser overheating...

Best purchase was the Numark DMC2 and Vestax PMC250 combo that I've used for about 5 years now... Just got a vestax vci400 and I'm loving that too! :)

I regret the Numark HDCD1 for $1200 back in the day....never really used it and sold it for $200 uugghh!!! Makes me sad thinking of all the gear I could have got with that G!

The only bad product I've bought was a Behringer BCD 2000.

The rest have been fairly consistently good.

That was the second thing that popped into my mind Marcel, that P.O.S. bcd2000.

Behringer DDM4000

Horrible mixer FOR ME. Not that it's a bad mixer but for my purposes it was horrible.

Other than that mixer, I have been pleased with everything else I have purchased over the years.

The korg kaos pad 3. I am really kicking myself because the first two sucked as well. I kept thinking it would have to get better and it never did

Traktor....lol... though i didnt technically buy it, it came free with my Mixtrack Pro... which i then requested a vdj serial number from numark instead cuz i really cant get the hang of trakturd...

American DJ Messenger,

I saw it on youtube and thought it looked great but i had to send it back 6 time to Holland which cost more in postage that what the effect cost in the first place, and it still didn't work.

So I binned it, total hours use 1. Unit was brand new!

American Audio VMS4 for me also!

I had high hopes for the thing but it but it let me down big time!
