Hey Guys,
I am new to the site, and djing as well. I am looking for a controller, mostly for fun as a hobby. I might do some house party djing as well. so I am basically looking for a beginners/intermeditate product. My price range is roughly 500, and I probably will upgrade to Virtual DJ pro (how much would that be roughly?). I mostly like playing house, deep and progressive if thats important=)
I am deciding between Numark N4 (499$) versus Hercules DJ Console 4-MX (360$). I understand that Numark is 4 channels and it can be used without a computer, and Hercules is also 4 channels but you can only control 2 channels at once (change from A to B etc.). Both machines have great comments online, so I am struggling in deciding. Are there are additional major differences between the 2? Would it worth spending 140 more for the Numark N4? Lastly I think Numark is a very new decide compared to Hercules right?
any additional suggestions are also welcomed=)
thanks for the helps in advance.

Hercules 4-MX is built like a tank and sounds great! It does everything I ask of it. for a house music controller its great.

did you upgrade to virtual dj pro? if yes how much was it? thanks a lot..

The N4 is designed for Serato Enter, and the Hercules 4MX is designed to Virtual DJ, that's a big advantage 4MX Hercules.

The N4 was built for VDJ aswell, it comes with an LE version. The 4-MX is a 4 deck controller but only has 2 upfaders where as the N4 has 4 upfaders. I like having the 4 independent sliders, makes mixing easier. That seals the deal for me.

If you buy the Hercules 4-mx you can upgrade to Virtual DJ pro, with more then 100$ discount.
I paid 180$, so that's 150$ less then the original price (wich is 329$)
I don't know if this applies for US people, but I paiid 140$ + 40$ tax, so in fact almost 200$ discount...
So 360$ for the 4-mx, plus 180$ for the PRO version, that's 540$ in total.
It's a bit above your price range, but I guess there are more and cheaper controllers out there ;)
It's just to give you a tought...

thanks for the responses.. by my price range I meant just the controller. but just wondering is it worth spending 150 more on Numark?
what are your thoughts on Traktor S2.. I never used Traktor software and did not like the screenshots and the free trial (it seemed a bit to complicated)

You have two volume controls, but you can control all four channel decks... two at a time with a push of a button, it's very easy...Deck (A&C), (B&D)..
My most important reasons I decided on it are, It's built well and all Metal construction, Hercules sound quality and customer support, no plastic made problems due to heavy use, small footprint compared to all the other 4 channel competiting space huger's.... It reminds me of a timex watch...Takes a licking and keeps on ticking...
Accept the MC6000..

Yeah Joey Im fully aware that can be done.......give me some credit here....you can do this with ANY 2 deck controller, hell you can even do it with a single deck.

I own a 4-mx and i love everything about it except the lack of 4 upfaders.
If you can live with the deck swap thing then the 4-mx wins.
Its all metal, the soundcard is great, and its a little cheaper than the n4.
But lf you really want 4 deck control the n4 wins.
I find that the deck swap makes 4 deck mixing almost impossible.

Nuff said right there.............thats all I was trying to say in my earlier post.

I wouldn't even compare the N4 with a hercules deck. The N4 controller is alot better.

how about tractor control s2? there is a great sale on it. its about 450 now and it comes with the full software
so i won't need to spend on upgrade..

The N4 is better. It also comes with a 4 deck version of Virtual DJ LE & Serato DJ Intro.

I think the thread should have a different title. You will probably change a dozen of controllers in the next 10 years, but not easily a software. What i mean is that you need first to choose the software you wish to use, and then pick up the controller that runs with it and meets your requirements.
FYI Traktor S2 is not currently supported.

N4 hands down. But both these controllers as well as others lack one thing. Rotation indication. I try not to look at the screen so much but its a task when I am beat juggling. So the NS6 or NS7 would be my choice...but yeah the N4...Up faders, quick access to all 4 decks, color indication for each deck, built in sound card, option to ad turntables or cdjs for timecodes, pro outs...N4 for All day

Could not agree more!

This is what I was afraid of. If I end up getting an authentic 4-deck controller, compromising with a 2-fader limit is just out of the question. Thumbs up for the N4.

What about the VMS4.1, it does 4 decks of USB and 4 channels of analog alone with 2 dedicated mic channels
