Dear Sir/Madam:

I am currently switching to DJ on a Laptop and need to know what set up would be best to use. I am not sure if I should go with Dell, Asus, or HP. Also they want me to VDJ as well but don't want to do it via HDMI. How would I connect the LapTop to the TV's..? All advice would be greatly appreciated.. Thank you..

The laptop is more about what your preference and budget is. just make sure u get something with the highest amount of RAM. As for connecting to monitors look into a pc to tv converter. google it.

Everyone got different issues with different brands. All suggestions on what brand to buy is based on personal experiences. So i can't recomment a specific brand. What I can advise is to check for "Entertainment Series"-laptops. They often got more connectors for USB, FireWire, video out, and so on. Since you want a TV-out, look for a laptop with dedicated video memory instead of shared memory.
If you don't want to use HDMI, the only options you've got left is S-VHS or composite video out (The yellow RCA-connector). If your TV doesn't have these inputs, adapters are available from S-VHS or Composite Video to scart.
For recommended specs check >>THIS<< page.

The only thing i would reccomend, based on personal experience is:
1.) make sure the screen is legit, as in, big enough so you aren't squinting haha
2.) if you can, get your keyboard with black buttons and white letters - better to see in the dark. Learned that lesson the hard way with my all-chrome-like HP...TERRIBLE to see keyboard without a light in dark settings haha

Almost every Laptop coming out has an HDMI out and VGA. They sell VGA-composite/S-video comverters, Like VooDoo and Martin FourS said above, they run anywhere from 80-120 dollars (US) on average, although they have higher end ones that are more expensive.

If you can get a laptop with 2 internal hard drives (or at least a space for a 2nd) that's a plus. Keep software on one and Music on the other.

RAM is definately important, just as important as the processor, and if you can, like Martin said, get a DEDICATED video card, vids will run smoother and not bog down the system (although newer laptops seem to run vids smoother that the older ones, even if they just a few years older).

However, all of this could cost big bucks. So, if your on a budget you'll have to find balance, and be faced with sacrificing one feature for another. RAM and a great video card should NOT be sacrificed for other creature feature. you can get aftermarket gear like usb hubs, video converters, hard drives AFTEr the fact.

One last thing, once you've done that "optimize" your computer. You can find out how to do that by serching the forums and teh Google :)

Good luck!
