I *FINALLY* did the right thing today and joined Netsearch, mainly to help the team. I will use Netsearch every NOW & THEN for those requests I do not have locally but perhaps not even then since I do not like having the laptop online while on a job.
A couple of questions have arisen today when playing around with it on my desktop...
On search listings I am seeing songs with a CHECKMARK and without it, what does the checkmark mean? What does the one without it mean?
Thanks!

The ones with check marks are supposed to be from the label, so those are the better tracks. The ones without are just from Groove Shark users, it can be a hit or miss with those. Always download the cache first and listen to the tracks first to make sure its what you want. All the videos I believe come from YouTube again this can be a hit or miss.
Hope that helps

I thought its best to use VDJ with your internet shut off? This is to avoid glitching and problems with playback.

I just signed up too. How do you get videos? I keep getting an error message. NEVER MIND. Figured it out.

I do not recommend using Netsearch during a live production. It can cause the program to freeze, audio will still play, but the interface will lock up.
From experience I make this suggestion. Although, if you have a beefy laptop with a lot of RAM you might not run into the problem.

Well ram alone wont do it.
if you have a lot of computing power that helps too.
The only issues I have run into with netsearch is their servers for virtual DJ are down quite often, I was boasting about the 15 million songs and was djing at a club solely on netsearch (ignoring my music database of 235,000 songs [rounded]) and it stopped working, one of those things you have to watch out for. DO NOT RELY on it solely, make sure you have a decent database yourself (over 3k songs) preferbly top requested songs. and yes all my songs are obtained legitly.
Netsearch in itself is a hit or miss, but it's a great feature to have when it is working.

It's not about the internet being shut off - it's about disabling problematic drivers. Being connected to the internet is not a problem, however home Wi-Fi cards can cause massive DPC issues. Others don't. Same for LAN and 3G connections.

Outages are extremely rare as far as I know, so I'm not sure where you get that idea from.

This however is the absolute best advice.

Would you say the netsearch feature is a good replacement for belonging to a record pool?

No because you don't actually have a copy of the track. NetSearch is not a replacement for your music pools. It's there for those weird request or say you didn't have the track. If a few people ask me for the same track and I don't have it, ill usually use NetSearch to get me through the night, then when I get home ill buy that track and delete the NetSearch file.

Thanks Huey. That makes sense.

I don't know why you guys are so afraid of the Internet. I am playing in the club right now, downloading from my subscription sites, and using netsearch. My netsearch subscription is paid for, let's just say for a very, very long time, because of all the request that I have taken. I'm in a Gentlemen's club, so I am not talking about some $2.00 request. I do not talk about how much I make on these forums, because you never know. These are some hip hop tracks, that have not even been released, by the labels. I have had a glitch here and there, but never a show stopper. As I have said before, I don't care how much processes are being used, as long as my machine does not crash. I am still using XP, with 2g of ram, and yes it is a desktop.

I don't do a lot of gigs....probably about 2 a month as I am a mobile DJ.....& I have a couple of questions about netsearch..... 1. Is it worth the money as I mainly play hip hop & r&b music new & old... 2. Is it reliable....I mean it is the internet so I'm sure it crashes every now & then but how often??? 3. How often is the music updated???? (Sorry, I googled it but not finding the answers to my questions) It's about 2 be spring/summer so my gigs will be picking up & I can use my phone as a mobile hotspot to connect to the net to use this feature for the gigs that I'm at that doesn't have wifi... but I figured it would be a nice backup to have for certain requests...

Well im a mobile DJ too and i found out that in the middle of the party netsearch was gone, i swithc to play backup mp3 on cd turn on and of vdj several times and nothing it was gone... it was almost at the end of the gig. as mobile dj ppl ask for songs that you never heard off and netshearch is a good feature to have... so what i am doing now is to download all songs b4 the gig and refresh the cache that helps but netsearch go down often i know this is a fact....
do not relay only on netsearch!!

+1
I have only had issues when the connection was slow or having problems. When your haveing a problem, try to open a web page or something, see if that is slow or works at all.
And keep in mind, cache them and prelisten before putting them into a set!
