Why do you NEED a name? Do you think you will magically get gigs if only you had a cool name?

First of all, if you pick a name and decide to go with it, then you sir are a douchebag. A GREAT dj name is one that is EARNED. A DJ name should say something about the DJ. My DJ name was GIVEN to me, because I was the crazy, wild, party DJ that wasn't afraid to say or do ANYTHING.

A no talent a$$clown who gives himself a cool sounding DJ name is still a no talent a$$clown.

A DJ who works gigs and pays his dues and is GIVEN a name is the TRUE dj.

Good luck to you.

Tone it down bud, I just started mixing a couple weeks ago and thinking about names seems like a fun thing to do. Of course I don't think having a cool name will get me anywhere, anyone who does should re-evaluate their plans.

Really? Really?

1. You named this thread "I NEED A DJ NAME"
2. I gave you some things to think about and how many of us DJ's feel about the "dj name"
3. You reply with the above?

I am NOT your "bud." If you expect to be successful as a dj, then you would do well to learn a little bit of respect for those of us who have been around for some time. I started over 20 years ago. I have done well over 500 wedding dances, countless school and youth events, birthday parties, corporate events, and bars and nightclubs all over North America. I offered you sound advice learned over decades.

I would spend more time practicing your programming and mixing skills and less time worrying what to call yourself.

Again, good luck to you.

What's your name? Marty. Ok, what's your DJ name? I want to put it on a flyer. Uhh...I don't have one. A wise man once told me I should remain nameless until I earn one...WTF
I can only kno I'm talented if I'm given a dj name...

djnutz i can tell you're really passionate about DJing, respect, and I didn't notice any disrespect while writing to you, so sorry if you thought I did, but first off this was supposed to be a chill brainstorming session and secondly, I never used caps in the topic, I never said NEED, I said need because I came to my head before 'want'.

@djnutz,

Give the kid a break, he's just enthusiastic and doing what most people do... branding themselves... Startup companies overspend their time on getting a name and logo, new DJ's all need a name.

And of course its eventually about experience, earning etc etc, but its passion and enthusiasm that will get you there.
