Topic: No skipping

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Maybe its me... I never get ANY skipping from VDJ. I gotta say. I love this program. I'm running it on an older Dell 1520. 2gb Ram. 1.8mhz processor. Its an old windows xp machine that is completely loaded with all sorts of software for the whole family. Everyone used it all the time. It's the laptop that never stops.

I have the AC unplugged. I've got Excel open. The wifi is on. There are 4 different webpages open, and Youtube is up. Even the virus scan is turned on. VDJ is playing, looping, effects are going, playlist running, and not one skip. The processor on VDJ never goes above 10%. When loading songs, it never goes above 50%

I don't know why more powerful computers have more issues. Maybe its because this machine is XP?

(on a side note.. I did do all the typical XP tweaks).

These sort of problems are generally caused by latency issues rather than high CPU usage.

Latency issues are commonly caused by badly designed drivers (WiFi and ACPI battery are common causes) and unnecessary background processes. Foreground applications such as Excel, web browser, etc. will not usually have a negative impact on VirtualDJ unless the computer is low on system resources.

Most new computers are usually built with typical home and office users in mind, so perform poorly for demanding low latency applications such as VirtualDJ until they have been tweaked and optimised.

NOTE: It's not advisable to use a laptop that you rely on for gigs for general use.

This laptop is my test laptop. I use it to write my mappings, and test them. This laptop never goes to events with me to DJ.
