Topic: Is anyone using Denon 3700's in hybrid midi mode?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Is anyone using Denon 3700's in hybrid midi mode? If so I could use some help getting this working. I have been using midi for a while, but want to see if hybrid mode will cut down on the latency without messing up my audio. I have an M-Audio Conectiv that I am using as the sound card. I have searched and searched, but haven't found any posts that help.

Thanks for the response Huey. I've been running them in midi mode for a while. Just want to see if hybrid mode will give me a better "feel" without causing audio problems. Maybe the wiki will get updated soon, or I'll get lucky and get this working.

Well there is your problem. The 3700 is native to VDJ and can use the built in sound card in the 3700. If you use MIDI you do not need a sound card with VDJ and the Denon 3700.

This cuts on the latency considerable.

My current set up is 2 3700, DNX1600 Mixer. No soundcard. USB Cables from the 3700 and 1600 plugged to a USB hub then to my Mac. The RCA outs of the 3700 directly to my RCA in on the DNX1600

A "HYBRID MODE" guide will come very soon on the Wiki...

For the record . . . I am using the soundcards on the 3700s. I am in midi mode. I am using an external (non midi) mixer. It works, but I want it to work better. Thinking of grabbing a midi mixer, as i don't have the latency issues on my Denon DN-MC6000. I can scratch just fine on that at 512. Have to Take the 3700s down to the 300s to get the timing right, but that gives me an occasional audio glitch.

To get your Latecity down, you have to tweak your laptop, Add more ram, etc. Another good way to get better accuarcy is: 1 Hold the " Memo " Button on the Denon 3700 untill you see the word " Present Mode/ Then Cue Mode Denon ", Now on your right side of the Denon Deck, Turn the round Parameters button counter clockwise untill you see " Jug Pulse Select " and change it from 1480 to 2960. You do this by pushing the same round button down and it will let you change the number. Once the number is set, Click on the memo button and your done.

@Caliente123:
This will not work properly... Currently VDJ is "hardcoded" to read 1480 ticks per cycle from the DENON's. If he changes his platter resolution to 2960 the sound will be wobbled because VirtualDj will treat it like turning the vinyl with double speed...

Edit:
Even a new device definition file won't help... VirtualDj uses some special commands to handle the rotating platter of the 3700. These commands are hardcoded to read 1480 ticks per cycle.

denon_platter : 'denon_platter 1', 'denon_platter 2'
get denon_platter : 'get denon_platter "on" ', ' get denon_platter "reverse" ', ' get denon_platter "speedup" ', ' get denon_platter "speeddown" '

Laptop is tweaked. Don't get me wrong . . . I am using the 3700s with good results and great sound quality right now, BUT I want to see if Hybrid Mode will be an improvement. I am only using the M Audio Conectiv when trying to get Hybrid Mode working. Otherwise, the 3700s are connected directly to the mixer utilizing their internal soundcards. I will keep testing things out. I might stumble across the correct settings for the Conectiv & 3700s.

Thanks for all the suggestions . . . keep em coming!!!

Are you looking for better results with the plater ?

Yes. There is a slight delay between what i do on the platter and what happens in the software. This causes my cuts to be off. I can decrease it by decreasing the buffer, but I don't want to run into audio issues. I get good results right betweeen 7ms & 8ms. Cuts are clean and no glitches. The funny thing is I don't have to dial down the buffer on my MC6000 when it is in PC mix mode, and it is spot on. But when it is in int mix mode, which is the same scenario as using the 3700's with an external non midi mixer, I get the same delay. I found some additional tweaks last night while reading through a few posts. I will do some more testing this afternoon to see if any of the changes I made get rid of my problem.
