Hello Everyone!

My name is Lenny and I'm new here. I've had virtual DJ for a while but never used it. Last night I purchased a Numark MixTrack Pro and I'm trying to use it with Virtual DJ. I just bought headphones this morning so I could work on cueing up tracks but I can't get it to work. Here's what my set up right now.

-Numark MixTrack Pro connected via USB to MacBook Pro
-I have my cheapo radio shack headphones connected to the MixTrack Pro via the headphones port on the front of the unit
-I have a red/white RCA Cable connected to the back of the MixTrack Pro in port 1 going to a regular head phone plug that goes in my laptop.

The settings on Virtual DJ Pro are as follows:
-Input: None
-Output: Headphones/ Master: Chan 1&2/ Headphones: Chan 3&4
-SoundCard: 4-out card (drop down selection on MixTrack Pro)

What am I missing here guys? I want this to work and unfortunately I'm starting to get frustrated! I just want to start playing around with it!!

Hopefully someone can help me and I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to post this.

Thank you!

Lenny

When I'm just working on stuff at home I'm okay with the music coming out of the MBP speakers as I have my powered speakers at school. Thank you!

The output of the Mixtrack DOES NOT plug into the laptop - that's where you're going wrong.

The laptop headphone socket is an OUTPUT not an input.

The whole idea of having a controller with an onboard sound card is that the sound comes out of the HARDWARE, not the computer.

Plug the output of the Mixtrack into a hifi system or a pair of powered speakers.

Okay. So the Y-RCA cable that I just bought isn't going to do any good? I'm not good with wiring and what not but I understand what your saying. I don't understand however why I can only hear music out of my headphones and not the computer even with the rca to headphone unplugged.

Because the mixtrack is your sound card. Your MBP is no longer handling the sound. You can use the y jack to go into a system input. You don't have a receiver or other sound source around?

My goal with this is to be able to PRE LISTEN to one deck with the headphones but have the other deck play music that comes out of the laptop speakers. If this isn't possible without plugging into a powered speaker that would solve the problem I suppose.

You can do this, but not with the mixtrak hooked up. I can't help you with MBP configs, I know nothing about them. Which version of VDJ are you using?

I had the same problem when i plugged in my headphones to the "headphone" jack... no sound on the headphones. I fixed the problem: you have to go into the configuration and set up the "audio" to output to speakers AND headphones.

My problem is before I started messing with trying to get it to come to the headphones it played through my computer speakers. Now I started messing with those settings and it only plays through the headphones and not through the computer speakers at all.

This is what I don't understand....

Why do people buy controllers with sound cards in, then expect to play the music through their laptop speakers?

Laptop speaker sound quality is dreadful.

You want to DJ but you prefer your music to sound like a telephone handset? I don't get it!

Even when I'm not using my PA system or hifi, I still feed my laptop sound to a Logitech MM50 or a pair of Creative T20 speakers.

Well I'll give you some explanation then. I am the most beginner Dj you've ever seen. I've played saxophone and piano since early elementary so I have a music background, however no DJ experience.

I'm currently home from school where my speakers are (school is 4 hours away) so driving there isn't an option. I just bought all this stuff last night and I want to start practicing and that's why I don't care if I'm playing music thru my laptop speakers. I just want to learn and practice about my machine and software! I'm very eager to learn and could care less if my music sounds terrible because the only person hearing it will be me and I don't need to impress myself.

Any one that has any other options for me I'd love to hear them!!!

Thank you!

make sure the soundcard in the settings is set to your MBP and not 'Numark' so the sound comes out of your laptop speakers. Don't plug anything into the back of the MTP (Mix Track Pro) as you don't need it if you're only using the speakers on the laptop. If you have any sort of stereo that has a line in like an aux on a boombox or even a tv or surround sound you can get a set of rca cables and plug them in from the MTP to get sound out of that.

I have a few different setups that I use depending on what I want to do, here's how my stuff is, and I'm using a regular HP laptop with Virtual DJ Pro but it was the same when I had Virtual DJ LE:

1) If I just wanted to hear everything from my laptop I would plug in the MTP to the computer and my headphones to the MTP. In the settings I had it set to single output or headphones output and the soundcard was the primary sound driver which was the laptop. The sound was coming out from the laptop.

2) I have a small iPod boombox next to my computer that has a line input using RCA's so I would plug in a set of RCA cables from the output 1 of the MTP into the boombox. I set VDJ to have headphones output and the soundcard was Numark. I then set it so outputs 1/2 were the master the 3/4 were the cue/headphones. The sound came out of the boombox and I could hear the cue track on my headphones.

3) I have a surround sound system in my living room so I sometimes use a really long, 30ft RCA, cable to connect it just like my boombox but it would connect to an open input on my surround sound receiver. If I wanted to, I would plug in a second set of RCA's to the boombox and use output 2 of the MTP so I could hear the cue/headphone track on the boombox right next to my laptop.

4) Using VDJ Pro I can set the outputs of the MTP to be left on output 1 and right on output 2. I then have a set of RCA's going to each the surround sound receiver and the boombox so I can hear the master output track on both the surround sound receiver for my guests and the boombox next to me so I can hear what they hear and still hear the cue track on my headphones.

The correct phrase is "couldn't care less".

Surely you have some sort of audio system that you could plug into? It would be a very unusual crib that had NOTHING at all with a line input and speakers.....

Well I figured it out. I'm an idiot. Took a red/white RCA cable to the AUX connection on a receiver and voila, I now have pre listening/cueing in my headphones while the music on the deck playing comes out from the receiver! Thank you everyone for your help!

Don't be so hard on yourself, you're not an idiot. A crackhead, or an imbecile, but not an idiot.

Blulite, your article was actually one of the ones I read helping my configure the sound settings on Virtual DJ. I just missed this big part:

" and subsequently into your amp."

And that's why I classified myself as an idiot. I don't know why I thought that the Mixtrack Pro would have power to it like a receiver/amp does.

Oh well, problem solved!
