Hey DJs ... for a small one and a half weeks ago I was hunting for new loudspeakers.
In this connection, I got some advice for what I ought to go and listen to, and here's what I've experienced.
I must point out that I'm not sound engineer, so it is then heard by an ordinary DJ / person's ear.
Furthermore, the term "good sound" is of course very subjective.
--------------------
Setup 1.
D.A.S. Avant 15a
Specs: 100watt HF, 500watt LF, spl 1m. 133dB (dB peak)
Appearance: Really nice, simple and exclusive to look at. But it is quite large and may not be handy to carry around.
Weight: Approximately 30kg.
Sound: I think it was impressive so much bottom there was in them even when there was full power on. Unfortunately, the store was about to load them for a gig, so I heard them just shortly. So I was not able to push them. Therefore I have no real basis to assess how they sound when they play through.
Price: Around 10.000 dkr a unit.
GENERAL APPEARANCE: Very nice box. Not so handy. The sound as I have said, hard to judge because we not have the time to squeeze them.
--------------------
Setup 2.
LD Systems Stinger LDEB152A
Specs: 450watt RMS, 100dB
Appearance: Not the best looking design. Seems a little clumsy.
Weight: approximately 30.5 kg.
Sound: They played OK when there was at bottom - but as I was / is looking for speakers to be used for full range, I could not use it for anything. There was no bottom at .. Miserable speakers to Full Range.
Price: Think they cost around 5-6.000 dkr a unit.
GENERAL APPEARANCE: Ok if you want some affordable speakers and you intend to have the top / bottom with you every time! I did not liked the design or sound.
--------------------
Setup 3.
KV2 Audio KX15
Specs: 50Watt HF, 450watt LF, spl. 1m. 129dB (peak)
Appearance: Exclusive and delicious. But are fairly large.
Weight: about 32kg.
Sound: Now I do not know if it was the room, the music we played or whether the speakers are just right for my taste. There was not a finger to put on the sound. Delicious and rich. Even when we really fired up for the volume, it was not pressed, and the treble was still soft and delicious. Must say I was madly skeptic because I think that people have talked so highly of them that it may be (violin) ... but it's damn good enough. God Damn they play great.
Price. about. 10.500 dkr a unit.
GENERAL APPEARANCE: A little too big and heavy for my taste. But it compensate for it on the sound - it will play your butts off, and meanwhile the sound is delicious. Sunning sound of a single 15".
--------------------
Setup 4.
QSC KW152
Specs: 500watt HF, 500watt LF, spl. 1m. 133dB
Appearance: Big, but super good weight distribution. Super cool design.
Weight: 29kg.
Audio: Shit they play loud! There is also a super good bottom in this one - I was particularly impressed with the treble's headroom. I had the speakers specially ordered home.
Price: Around 10-11.000 dkr a unit.
GENERAL APPEARANCE: Quite large speaker with nice wooden cabinet. VERY good sound.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The battle came down between the KX15 & QSC KW152.
QSC & KX15 is so close to each other as you can get, but QSC just get the 10% better sound due to the amplifier. It's twice as large as the KX15.
If you look at other things (design, weight, features) so there are both pros and cons on both boxes.
KX15
Design: It looks like a "disco" speaker, it's personal taste whether you think that you should be able to see the devices. If you look at the box size, so it is more than QSC, which may act violently if you have slender tripod below.
Weight: It weighs more than the QSC that has a larger amplifier, again a matter of taste.
Features: If we look at the connectors, it gets the pluses from my side, because link outlet in power, rubber edges, making it almost impossible to scratch it and good weight balance on the handles. (Both by freight in one / two hands up / taking down the tripod)
There is also minuses, for example. Limiter section that kicks in quickly and carefully and slooowly screws up again, no way of angling with a long rod between the sub. And you can only adjust the output frem -6db to + 6db
QSC
Design: The design is clean and looks into my eyes more an installation / high end speaker, but again that is what your style is.
They seem not too big on slender tripods because they are more elongated than KX.
Weight: They are easier than KX'eren, but the handles are slightly skewed weight terms when they are up on a tripod.
Features: Here the QSC is winning clearly. There are several input & adjustment options, along with the ability to put the LED in front to not show power, but the clip limiter if you use it as a sound engineer for the band, etc. It is also possible for remote gain.
It has a slice in the bottom which means it can be angled if you shoot it up on a long rod between the sub.
It also gets a few minuses because there can not be linked powerwise, and it is easy to get to scratch.
My choice would fall on the QSC.

Just for your information:
4db SPL difference is about the "double" sound pressure since db's follow the logarithmic scale... +3db equals x2 sound pressure as understood by human ear.
Also I believe that you made a little mistake on the specs of the QSC... Is it really 500W HPF ??? :P

I like the QSC's but their a big lump to lug around, wouldn't you be better off with a pair of 122's and some subs? the way I've gone, nowadays 12's are powerful enough for small jobs and for big jobs just add subs.
I have some 152's I've never used.

+1
I have 2 systems
System 1)
2x 10" tops and 2x 15" subs & an amp that produces 880W per side.
System 2)
2x 10inch tops & 1x 15" sub all self powered for 700W total.
I don't see myself buying anything larger than 10" tops in the near future. The Peavey PR10's I have are 400W max rated (200W program)

You have left out the best bang for the buck currently in this category. The EV ELX115P.

These EVs sound fantastic and are currently available for 549 USD each. Just an incredible value for a powered 1000w+ 15" box. Added bonus is that they only weigh 54lbs each too!
