Hi everyone. I'm shopping for a laptop right now for a new rig. I wanted to know, and maybe this is specifically a programmer question, but when VJing, does VDJ use the GPU or the CPU to play the music videos on the 4 decks? If I know what VDJ uses tro render video, then I know where to customize and ad more memory, Processor speed, ram, etc. I'm looking into the Sager desktop replacements in a 17" model and you can go crazy configuring them with 32 gigs of ram, three hard drives, dual video cards each with 2 gigs of ram, etc. But why spend all that money if VDJ will not use particular resources. So, does anyone know what VDJ accesses to render video?

Anyone? Programmers, developers? I'm building a custom computer for the express purpose of VJing with 4 decks at once including a video feed from the firewire input connected to my video camera. SO I will be running possibly 5 video signals at once. Does Virtual DHJ use the GPU, CPU or both to play video. I can choose Intel I7 QUad core or Intel I5 quad core processor. The I7 is $300.00 more and I will spend if needed. I know the I7's speed comes into play if the software utilizes hyer threading in the processor, but Virtual doesn't take advantage or use Hyper threading on the processor, themn a Intel Core I5 will be sufficient. Also, if Virtual utilizes it's video playback and compiling/compression through the GPU, then I should get a pretty hefty video card with a few gigs of ram on it. If Virtual instead mainly uses the CPU, then I need to concentrate on a faster processor and memory. Of course it would be nice to spend alot and just get the fastest and most powerful of everything, but again, if Virtual doesn';t utilize certain componenets, then it's a waste of money to upgrade those components. And seeing as my gig machines never connect to the internet to keep them clean and are only used for VJing, I want to only spend on what is needed.
