Hey all,

I was wondering, what are the best Effects for VDJ? I'm simply looking for basic effects to help out mix some tracks sometimes. Echos, delays, reverb, etc..

Also, I've drive tested Traktor and it has some core effects and it is possible with it to enable multiple effects at the same time. I was wondering, is this possible with vdj? I think its called Chained effects.

Multiple effects together is possible by making a custom command either on your controller or skin using VDJ script. For example, I have a line6 device that I am using some of the knobs of to trigger effects. And assigned the following to the knob:

param_greater 0% ? deck 1 effect 'Turnado' active on & deck 1 effect 'Turnado' slider 1 : deck 1 effect 'Turnado' active off & deck 1 effect 'Turnado' slider 1

Personally I like the effects of TexZK, FlanJet, Filters 2.2. But I've also been experimenting with Turnado which has some great effects. Super Low and high pass filters.

Just try them out, see how you like them!
 
I really like the Beatgrid, Loop Roll and Shaker beats. It is important to know that you can change the beat grid pattern under the effects tab as well as get control on all effects under that tab

I use break, flanged echo out, beatgrid, cut, backspin, and filter. I have them dedicated to buttons and knobs on my MC6000. The ones that help the most coming *out of* a mix are echo and break for me.

Also, you CAN use more than one effect at once. I use cut/filter at the same time all the time as it sounds really cool :D
 
All of these are mapped to my controller under various shifts and combinations, personally there is nothing I hate more than flanger and phaser plugins so they are not used, and I have never tried them, I only really use effects that alter the transport. Unfortunately there is no standard for plugin design for vdj so some effects do work together some dont, it's a case of trial and error to find what works.

  • VST qb_filter - amazing quality filter, with resonance, lfo
  • looproll - roll effect, that can either sample the buffer or the live deck output, with reverse
  • granular - beat repeat effect to rival traktors beatmasher
  • magic loop - feedback loop as emulated to be like the pioneer efx 1000
  • loopout - this stops the track playing and echoes out a loop
  • echodoppler - recordable echo out, with wet/dry, filter, time
  • rollit - roll effect that samples the live sound but can stretch the sample for a great sound
  • noisebell - white noise synthesizer
  • gate - One of Duen-Duens great new effects, this will cut all the sound below the selected frequency
  • brakestart - wind up and down speed, like a turntable
  • VST minimal systems instruments ultimate 3 band - amazing adjustable frequency eq
  • trans - transform effect, great when scratching
  • pitch echo - echo with adjustable pitch on the echo

there is a few on there, but it will need to change again to keep up with Duen-Duen's output of plugins :)
