Topic: Looking to buy my boyfriend new vinyl !

Hi :)
I am obviously not a DJ nor do I want to be one! Im just a girlfriend of a DJ that had to sell his vinyl setup, so now I want to buy him tables again for Christmas but one problem….I have no idea what I am looking for. I don't want to ask any of his friends that would know his previous set up because I know even they would get excited and spell the beans to him! I know his current controller is the Traktor s4 and if I am right you have to get the scratch program for hooking up the tables? Maybe if you guys could throw out some names of some good tables, I don’t want to buy him the minimum because if im going to get him tables they need to be up to his standards! Even though I am sure he would be happy with my thought! Also, if I should buy him a different controller as well with the tables so everything goes together? I really have no idea what im talking about when it comes to the equipment required!

Any advice would be appreciated, just don’t be mean :)

I would start with some research on the gear that he had.

Im trying to do that! Being the ultimate lurker, the key is.... I want this to be a HUGE surprise! I know what they look like I am just not sure what the make is!

Get him the Numark NS7 Controller. They have spinning platters just like turntables and he will feel comfortable using it.
 
maybe you can post some pictures with the equipment he had, im sure someone here will identify them for you...
 
Did he have any of these decks ?
 
But she might have old pics and if someone can ID the model she can try to by exact replacements - I believe is what RAS was getting at.
 
As others said, your best luck would be to either find his old setup and buy the exact equipment, or buy a couple of Technics SL1200MKII or Technics SL1210MKII

Thw difference between 1200 and 1210 is the color. 1200 is silver, 1210 is grey.
 
I think it would be best for her to ask one his friends. Tell them its a surprise and not say anything. Not everyone has a big mouth. I am sure that he can also find out from his friend what type of equipment he would like to get for himeself and she can go ahead and buy it for him for his brithday.
 
If you were my gf, I'd be happier to get the cash in a card that said "Go get your equipment back"

That way I would get the things I really need.

If he is like almost any other DJ, we are very particular about our stuff. Also, just cuz we have certain equipment, it doesn't always mean that's the equipment we would buy again.

The brand "Technics" is no longer in business, yes they are great products, but still.

Anyways, that's my input.
