Biased but not overly biased.

Does anyone know why Virtual DJ is not for sale here? http://www.juno.co.uk/dj-equipment/dj-mixing-software/
Posted Thu 10 Nov 11 @ 4:05 am
because if atomix only sell it from this site they keep all profits and don't need to worry about paying for distribution, and there is no cost lost to retailers, why do you think they dont charge manufactures to package their software... cause its all about movin units baby.. they have already made the product so there is no sense in keeping it hidden from everyone as, if a kid gets it bundled with a controller there is a chance that kid will upgrade to pro, unless they follow the hype and go for traktor or serato, which they would have done anyway after watching ian golden on youtube.. so its good advertising which at the end of the day equals $$$$, which for us means more staff which should mean better faster updates

Yes I appreciate all that you have said but if someone new to digital DJing was assessing the various software options available they could come to the conclusion that if it is not even listed or reviewed on established sites like Juno then the industry does not approve of it.

I seriously doubt a noob would even now about juno until about 6 months after they buy their first bit of gear, beatport pretty much has it covered noob wise, but most probably don't know what that is LOL.... noobs...

What about the fact that it ships with "big brand" products? Denon, Pioneer, Vestax....
It's almost 2012 now. Software in boxes is outdated. Everyone's online now.
When Steinberg released Cubase 6, there were loads of Cubase users wanting to upgrade online, being told that they had to order a box and wait for it to ship. Boxes are so 90s!

again good points and I am not debating that just pointing out that if someone was researching before buying they might get the wrong impression that's all.
Did I mention boxes anywhere? I don't think I did but you're right downloadable software is the accepted norm now but there's nothing wrong with making sure you're aligned with respected distribution channels and not just cnet download....

You didn't use the word, but you were talking about being listed on Juno - which is all boxed software.
I've just had a look on there myself, and Atomix/VDJ is kinda represented on there with Numark Cue....

Oh yes I didn't spot that. Fair enough but it's not entirely obvious is it?
I think what really led me to initially believe they didn't have VDJ up there in any shape or form was when they did their top DJ software review and VDJ didn't even make the cut which was unfair IMHO and they included production software in Abelton although I know DJs use it too.

Struth, they've got Torq and Mixvibes Cross on the list!
Their market share must be microscopic in comparison to VDJ.
Well at least I can say I've got one of the "top five" (according to them)........
I'm an Ableton Live user, although I wouldn't dream of DJing with it!

That statement only makes sense if you replace the word "DJ" with "club DJ"
last time I checked karoake DJ's & mobile DJ's comprised a pretty large percentage of people buying software and equipment.
Posted Thu 10 Nov 11 @ 10:15 am
Oh no mobile DJ's don't count, when they say DJ they mean people with spiky hair and sunglasses who do arm signals and twist knobs. If you carry speakers around you're a jukebox on wheels in their eyes.

Hello VDJ community,
I'm a Traktor user and I think it's a great program, I've also been using vdj home edition on and off for a while just to learn it and get familiar with it.
To me, for the way I spin, I think all software is the same but what I'm liking about vdj is the idea of is trying my hand at spinning video and having a means of people hearing me play (via vdj radio.)
I've been putting off buying the pro version but the news about the software's revamp is making me think more about it. It's not that I don't like Traktor or have any issues with it, it's just that NI has an internal focus for their software where as I see Atomix has an outward focus for their software.
Is Numark Cue the same as VDJPro?

Yes, Numark Cue is the same than VirtualDj Pro Full.

I would like to know what is really hiding behind this acquisation? To hide that you're selling the same old stuff for the past 10 years? To hide that you've just had to do it, to not allow PCDJ to pass you by? To buy some time and hide a fact that there's a new player coming (THE ONE) to sweep all the main players and blurb after all? I love VDJ, I'm following it for the last 2 years because of my job, but some honesty will do the job better than some fancy marketing magic words...

dear Walter...whats the point to live in a world of conspiracy.....bussines policy ia a matter of Atomix....who are we to judge....in the end all we care about is a good final product...and with all these going on I think we will have the best...with respect Dj Costa

Walter - the press release was very open to the fact of 'why' by our CEO.
“AdionSoft engineers and Atomix engineers have both been working on DJ software for the past 15 years, but have come up with different solutions and perspectives to common tasks”, says Stephane Clavel, Atomix Productions CEO. “By getting the insight of both teams on every single feature during the re-write of VirtualDJ 8, we were guaranteed to get the best of both world, and end up with a fresh and better software”.
It has nothing to do with any of what you have listed - it is simply - great software developers merging ideas, perspectives, and experience together to bring better software to the DJ world.
Sometimes people do things just because it is a good (GREAT) idea!!!

Cool... I'm ok with it. Did anyone even tried DJDecks? Have you noticed it's sound over Wasapi? Have you tried to open it's video effects with Notepad? Can you do it? And make something on your own? I'm just tired of your comparing VDJ with Tractor and stuff? Why are you so ashamed when using VDJ, software 10 years ahead of Tractor and such...
