hey guys, im having problems with a ground loop hum on my speakers. ive tried an ungrounded laptop lead but still i cant get rid of the hum... its pretty annoying.
tried different cables
various amp settings..
still cant seem to get rid of it
grrr
its really major as its part of my hifi system for the downstairs in my house.
setup is, dell inspiron laptop... H/H power amp, 2 sets ac euro speakers... im thinking is the problem with the cable from laptop to amp?
jigling the lead seems to just make things worse..... i also think it may be an amp problem but ive been running this for a while now and its only been humming since i added more speakers.
im a little smashed atm too so its just annoying me even more...

ok guys, so heres what ive done so far.
using my hifi (dell) laptop.
tried normal connections, have feedback.
tried ungrounded, have feedback
tried no ps, have feedback
using my rig laptop (acer),
tried normal connections, have feedback
tried ingrounded, zero feedback
tried no ps, zero feedback
using my hp netbook
tried normal connections, zero feedback
tried ungrounded, zero feedback
tried no sp, zero feedback
so.... is there any known grounding issues or interference issues with Dell laptops in general? if not, what else could possibly cause the interference from the dell?
it seems that i only get issues from the dell. the other two laptops are fine. well, the acer gives groundloop if its grounded hence why its ungrounded.

I haven't had a problem in the UK with Dell.
I would be taking all my plugs and speakon/jack leads to bits to do a visual inspection, you should buy a cable tester.

as it happens the dell was one of my deals i found lol.... i paid £15 for it... it had been dropped... it needed a pwer supply, battert and a screw in the hinge.. i never noticed any hum untill i recently, now i notice it all the time...
i am quite persistent lol...
it crossed my mind to use my netbook as my hifi laptop, but that would ean lumping a 15" laptop around and looking like an idiot wheni get it out in public... the netbook sits neatly on one leg and gets used with one hand while i use my phone with the other so it looks pretty cool... especially when im in mcdonalds and eating lunch and drinking coffee at the same time lol

So you've not tried using a ground loop isolator (GLI) yet then?

I'm surprised you don't have one already, to be honest.
Anyone that uses sound systems on a regular basis, especially when playing from a computer, should have a couple in their bits box.

hey guys, thanks for all your suggestions, ive got it fixed now, dazmax helped me out via pm. as my amp is meant to be an instrument/guitar amp, the impendences or the amp and the laptop were different and causing the hum.
daz suggested plugging the latop into the power amp/slave input in the back of the amp thus bypassing the internal cirtutry and the amp working purely as a power amp. hey presto fixo...
