Topic: Where should I go from here?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi fellas (and ladies),
I am just using a mixtrack pro with VDJ LE and I am wondering what I should upgrade to (after i get the pro version for christmas ;))
I am tempted to get a Novation Launchpad for the effects and samples but I also want a four deck system too (and what would I have to get to set one of those up - as a side note)
Any ideas would be much appreciated

Are you planning on producing your own? Mobile DJ? or DJ'ing at Clubs? Each will have its own specialized gear.

For production, personally I don't believe VDJ will be your software. Probably look at Ableton, a keyboard, maybe a NI Maschine.

For Mobile guess a minimalist set up is better for mobility. Given your requirement of 4 deck, I would suggest a Denon DN MC6000, Numark NS6, Hercules 4MX

For the clubs, the standard gear is a Pioneer CDJ 850, 900, 1000 or 2000. Pioneer DJM Mixer, some clubs with have a Rane57 Mixer and Technics 12000. If you want to play clubs, be very familiar with this gear. Or plan on bringing your own which is not really feasible at times since some DJ booths are very cramped.

There is also a question of what type of DJ are you. If your are going to spin EDM, Top40 or the like. CDJ's or a controller would probably be a fit. If you are a scratch or hip-hop DJ, you may want Technics 1200's or Controllers with spinning platters like a Numark NS7 or a Denon DNS3700, Numark V7, as well as a 2 channel mixer with a nice fader.

If you are just going to be a bedroom DJ, the set up you have should be good

Cheers xcakid,
As of now I just want to be a mobile dj at parties, weddings etc.
Do you use an effects pad or anything similar? Just trying to consider all the options here

For mobile I use the Denon DN MC6000 and just use it to control the effects on VDJ Pro. Having dnld additional effect from the plugins page here, I find that is all I need. I might add the MC6000 is rack mountable which makes it ideal for Mobile. If you are looking for something less expensive the Hercules 4MX has 4 decks capabilities, VDJ native, and smaller footprint. The Hercules 4MX is around $500 USD VS the MC6000 @ about $800 USD

The thing with the MC6000 is that it's not truly a four deck solution...

Yes it has four mixer channels, and deck select buttons on each side, BUT it doesn't actually have
four stereo USB audio channels out of the computer.

So the only way to use four decks is to use the software mixer.

A bit pointless when you have four channels of hardware in front of you.

Huh? Not sure what you are saying here.

Each four channel on the mixer is MIDI assignable via USBl. Each channel has its own soundcard. Each channel controls each of the four decks. It can also be used as a stand alone 4 channel mixer. That is the beauty of MC6000.

I have used the MC6000 as a stand alone mixer for 2 DN S3700 and 2 TT. I;ve used it to control all four deck on VDJ. Although I have not run it controlling 2 decks on VDJ and 2 of my 3700's. I have seen it done though.
