Topic: Need advice on new gear... please!!!!

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello there, I have been "lost" from this forum while a go. I'm still using VDJ 6.0.5 because it works flawless with my current gig (hc-4500 w/dnx500, PC with dual core 2.8 ghz, 4gb Ram, XP 64 bit, nVidia 7900GT 512mb). If my mind don't fail me, I do remember that VDJ was based on DirectX 9, so I still married with old DX9 video cards because crossfader video FX.

Now I want to keep this setup as a backup, and want to own another one more portable. I want to go with a lappy, that I didn't own yet, but I'm looking for a nice one (any suggestion will be welcome), with a real "all in one" gear, I'm not sure what to order yet because I'm still reading of most of them have some buggy things with buttons/asio drivers/bad soldering joints/ laggy stuff, etc.

I'm not a scratch DJ, but rarely I do some kind of scratch, and I like the felt of big jogs (before VDJ I used the CDJs, and I had a couple of cdn3500). Now I am only-video DJing. I found interesting the NS7 from numark, but I have read that it is not perfect with VDJ, also I do love the accurate hc4500, so I though that the MC6000 was the way to go but last night I read that still have some bugs in their asio driver. The ns6 looks like a toy, I have never liked the numark buttons on their players, but still not closed to this one. Pionner units until end of september will release drivers, so I have to wait more time to read some reviews from them. American Audio I have never like them, feels too cheap stuff.

I would like to have a cd player as backup if PC crashes, so It would be nice if the unit have a real "external" mixer.

So here are the million dollar question: Should I buy another HC4500 and anther Denon x500 mixer, in a portable rack and a laptop, or there is an "all in one" that works 100% worry-free all the time.

Thanks, for your suggestions, ideas, and comments, any input will be welcome.

The Numark Mixdeck Quad should be released very soon and may fir your needs. Also the Gemini CDMP-7000 has been announced but not yet released.

I like my Mixdeck but the Quad will be the way to go when it is released for a 4-deck controller with 2 built in CDJ and decent size Jog wheels.

I have never heard of the Numark Quad.... thanks for the tip, I will research for it....

About gemini... errr.. hhhmmm... well ... who can I tell... well, I do prefer better brands...

THANKS!

There is no such thing as "that works 100% worry-free all the time". We all take risk, it's time you take some. There is a reason they keep upgrading, and it's not just to add new features. The MC 6000 works great for me. So does the Hercules RMX, and one of my favorites the DMC 2, which I am using right now.

Its just a back up. Dont stress it. I've been finding that as long as youre laptop is in good performance, You shouldnt ever use it. Just my 2cents

I too have a Mixdeck and its been great, no complaints here. Since you do video the Mixdeck Quad would be a good choice cause the mixer section will be MIDI. The reason I went with the Mixdeck is cause if my laptop died I could just pop in a cd and be good to go or just plug my hard drive into it and still rock the party.

Happy hunting and let us know what you go with

I agree that Gemini has some questionable gear but check out he reviews of the CDMP-7000 from some of the Pro shows that have been posted on Youtube. It looks like a serious contender in the "All-in One" category. Personally I would lean towards the Mixdeck Quad but there are a few features on the Gemini unit that are pretty nice.

I to agree with that, plus that Gemini unit is sexy, lol!! If they change that mixer section to a MIDI/Analog I would definitely scoop one up (provided it measured up).......

Yeah.. but there should be the most close to worry free... I'm a beat mixing dj, but I dont use the automix thing... I do it the same way as I did it years ago with cd's, but now with video files. So I need a very accurate unit. As for what Im still reading here and in other forums, Denon it is the way to go... but man! the NS7 looks sooo hot and sexy!!! I just visited Pioneer's Dj page, and they have a "comming" soon unit, looks like will be a media controller (have lots of led's). As you say... I have to take my risk, and share my experiences.

Actually my VDJ PC it is a dedicated PC for that, I even dont have antivirus or other stuff that are hungry for CPU resource (I dont use thumb drives from people, only mine). And the lappy that I will own, will be a dedicated for VDJ. Thanks for the tip anyway.

You say that the NS6 "looks so hot and sexy", well so does Rupaul. I base my decisions on the features that will work for me. The NS6 is a great controller, and is not as cramped as the MC 6000, but was not for me. I have always been a rack mount guy, and like that option. I did not want to have to choose between a player and a mic. I need two mics, and like the xlr option on mic one. I like that the booth/zone has it own eq, and you can assign a different player to the booth/zone. This way you can have different music going to the zone. I like that the headphone jack is on the left, since I only use my left ear to monitor. What works for me, may not work for others, that's why there are so many controllers on the market.

HAHAHAHAHAAA... Dude, I forgot that I used to read all your post 2 years ago because you allways make me laugh... even those that were out of my business. If I dont remember wrong, you were out of a bussiness, or quiting to DJ isnt?. That was the time when I was keeping apart from this wonderful forum.

BTW, I was talking about the NS7, not the 6, the one with the spinning platters, the one that have more stuff to break or get damaged hahaha.. yeah, thats the risk, the more bells and whistles you have, more risk of something get damaged.

And you forgot that the mc-6000 will have denon's sound, that is all well know everywhere.

Well, I will do my purchase in a month, or maybe a little less, but at this time, the mc-6000 will be my first choise... then the NS7, dns3700's, maybe the Pioneer's stuff after september (the media controllers, because 2xCDJ2000+mixer their price are out of this world).

Cheers!
