Topic: Midi Enabled USB Mixers

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I recently made a few purchases, but almost as soon as I set up my "studio" I put everything up for sale. Hopefully I will make the money back and then some. My plan is to have a flexible workstation that I can add/remove components from as I feel the need, but also a compact one. I want to invest in a quality USB DJ mixer with two RCA line level inputs that is midi enabled, and I have a pair of AV switches so I could add as many devices as I like going forward. I am a bit confused about the connections I would be running from my mixer to my laptop and vice versa, however, and because I want to purchase something relatively expensive I would like to be absolutely certain about the functionality of the mixer I get. I previously had a Hercules MP3 and an analog mixer with two CD turntables but am dumping this because the Hercules MP3 is a dedicated midi controller and feels cheaply made, and I can't justify having CD turntables because I don't really own any CD's and they just don't seem practical. I would like a mixer that I can use with VDJ that has a built in audio interface, but here's my hang up: external sound cards are compromised if they are USB powered, so can I power the mixer/controller via the adapter and still use the midi/soundcard function? Basically I'm wondering is the midi data into VDJ share the same USB connection as the digital audio signal from VDJ into the mixer, or in other words would the mixer act as a controller and soundcard at the same time? If so, there must be a switch to enable line-level inputs no? And when using line-level inputs, what knobs, sliders, functions, etc... work (e.g. I'm sure the jogwheels wouldn't work)?

I would highly recommend Denon's DN-X600, DN-X900 & DN-X1700.....basically same mixer with more bells and whistles on the higher models.
I currently own a DN-X600 and im very happy with it, built in sound card, MIDI controls, hardware FX and Denon quality... whats not to love? I also owned the DN-X1700.
