Since installing a new hd in my laptop i have to recurse all the time in order to get my music to load, this isn't ideal, can anyone tell me whats going on?

Have you re added the music directory to the search database?
Right click on the directory and select from there.

Yeah done that, I right clicked on my music and added to search directory.
Time to go mac and use time capsule each and every time i upgrade hard drive.

If you have the original drive I would start over using winclone.
Its free and gives you a boot able drive, I just did this on my Mac and that was OSX and W7.
Not your average upgrade and it worked perfectly.
It may be reading the wrong data base also
Here is the best way to move in VDJ on a new drive or new machine.
1) copy the my documents folder to a restore file saved off the machine along with any other files you want to save.
I make a habit of keeping my install and driver folders right on my desktop so between the three of them I can do a painful restore, but mirroring is best.
2) before you install vdj, place the folder in the same location you saved it from on the older drive.
3) install vdj, it will see the drive and not overwrite it, so you should open to exactly what you had from music to effects to skins and so on.
Now in this case, if you have a way to read the old drive, access it and copy the my documents/vdj folder to the restore device.
Then go to the new my documents folder and look at the vdj folder. This is the one you want to copy and replace with what you saved from
the other drive.
When vdj opens it should read just like nothing ever happened providing the folder is in the exact location.
Also make sure your new restore is seeing the external drive is the same letter as it was.
If you don't remember you can read an other data base with notepad and see the path that was in use prior.
