This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Im renting out speakers but i dont know which ones. its either 2JBL EON 15" with stands and cables for 150 or 2 peavy passive speakers with sub and stands for 160.

I play latin music so I don't know which ones to get? Any suggestions?

With Salsa and bachata and banda and cumbia, I don't really see the big need for subwoofer, you can do without.

With merengue and reggaeton, I wouldn't go without a sub.

Passive speakers? so are they renting you the amp as well? or you have one?

oh my bad, from one store they are offering me the 2 peavy passive speakers with an amp and stands and cables for 160. and from another store its just to JBL EON 15" stands and cables for 150. NO SUB.

I would go with the powered speakers for a rental, because of the redundancy and because rental equipment may not necessarily be the most dependable. If the amp has issues (rented equipment may have been beaten up in the past,) you could lose all sound. With the powered speakers, you can lose one entirely and still have sound.

Do you know what model Peavey speakers and what amp they are?

The EONs will be easier to set-up and the 15's should have enough low end for a small to mid size setting. There is a reason they are one of the most popular sets of DJ speakers on the market. Not the cleanest sound but the price to performance ratio is pretty good.

I don't know if the EONS are really more redundant. with passive speakers if 1 channel on the amp goes out you can usually daisy chain the 2nd speaker off the first and still use both speakers at least - just in mono. If on of the EONS goes out you will just have 1 speaker and be unbalanced and in MONO. Of course if the amp gets completely toasted you are screwed. ;)
