Topic: MC-6000 - Questions

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I'm considering buying this as my next controller but I can't test it in my area.

If any owners of an MC-6000 could answer a few questions I'd appreciate it.

1) Are the outer rim of the jogwheels (pitch bend) motion sensitive? In that when given a hard push do they continue bending until they've stopped, or do they stop bending on release? Sounds like a silly question but the VCI-100 platters stop bending when released (at least in VDJ) which is difficult.

2) How accurate is the pitch slider? And when beatmixing are the jogs accurate enough or do you feel better off using the pitch bend buttons?

3) When in external mixer mode can the crossfader remain in midi mode? For example as a video fader.

Apart from these questions any feedback/input would be useful, needless to say I have read a number of threads on the subject.

Thanks

I think I’m following you here – and yes. If you were to let it rip (like a spin out), it seems that it keeps going until the jog physically stops. That said, it has a good amount of resistance to it and doesn’t go very far when your hand leaves, so it could all be in my head that I’m hearing that...

Originally, they skipped around a tad when bumped lightly, but as of the latest firmware upgrade they are much smoother. I keep mine set to +/- 10% and never have a tough time bringing the two pitches to the same level. As for buttons vs. jogs, I have yet to use the pitch bend buttons on it – I do all my mixing with the jogs and have found them to work well (they are adjustable, but the factory default reminds me very much of a Pioneer 100 in terms of sensitivity if you’ve ever used those). As a comparison, when I was playing around on a 4500, I only used the pitch bend buttons and never the jogs as I didn’t find them at all useful on that model.

Yes, the crossfader seems to always send midi signals back. This caused a little confusion when I was first setting it up, and required making an adjustment in the software so it would ignore the fader. You can also select the mode of the fader (audio, video, or both) so you have a fair amount of flexibility when using it.

I picked up my unit last December and have been using it out since. My bias is that I have always liked the Denon interface on pro gear more so than other brands, but with that said, it is a very solid unit and it has made dj’ing fun for me again. I don’t find it at all cramped as some have worried about, with the exception of the fader eq’s, which are a little tight together and a tad oversensitive in my opinion (they drop off too quickly when taken out of the centre notch). Otherwise, it has been a great piece of gear for my shows.

Hope that helps a little. I’m sure others will have more info for you.
