Maybe not one of the most influential artists but definitely controversial. The LA Times reports that it is confirmed and not a hoax.

I wasn't a fan, but being dead at 27 from drugs is still a shame.
 
27 or not though, she had a better life than most...27 a multi millionaire, party whenever she wanted. had enough readies to do or get whatever the world had to offer....as it happens she made some bad decisions and now she's dead. shame really, wonder what hapens to her money?
