I would go CDJ. When you are at a gig, someone is likely to bring you a CD that they want you to play, but I have yet to have someone bring me a thumb drive or external HD.

But to make carrying around CD's hurt a little less you can get one that plays MP3 CD's so that way you can carry fewer CD's with you.

My 2 cents.

Maybe something like the Mixdeck is what you'd want. You can play cds, Mp3 cds, usb jump, external harddrive and it can be used as a MIDI controller. So if your using it a MIDI controller and someone walks up with a cd or thumb drive you can switch over play the cd or thumb drive and then switch back to MIDI mode without a glitch (well I've never had one). The best part is, if they have a virus it never touches your laptop. Check t out, I've had nothing but goodness with it.

numark mixdeck quad bro if i had the cash i would go for it if i wanted a cdj else if midi controller then it would be NS6 :-)

Agreed, the Mixdeck Quad will probably be my next buy. I was leaning towards the Gemini CDMP-7000 but the mixer isn't gonna be MIDI. The Gemini unit is sooooo much sexier though, Lmao!!

@ Sonic View. The Denon 3700's would be nice. You can get them for 600 each or You can get the Numark NS6 deck. http://www.proaudiostar.com/ call for a better price.

+1 for the mixdeck - great to have both in one package

Anybody have word when the quad will be available? looks like it squashes any shortcomings with mixdeck's analog mixer gave people.

sometime around Fall 2011

Try Denon DN-S3700.You will adore them, trust me...

If you want solid equipment for going gigs Denon or Pioneer. Cheap stuff just doesn't hold up and you'll wind up spending more in the long run to replace broken equipment.

just thought what about USB vinyls aswell?

No one has given me a cd to play for years but always get people bringing up memory sticks (which I wont plug into my system). CD Players are also more unreliable just because they require more moving parts to make noise than a usb player which is all electronical.

Suspect we will see cds less and less in the future, but for now could still be handy for sure. Have to weigh up extra cost vs benefits.

I got given a CD last night, I also got one a few weeks ago. I just used my laptop CD drive to play through VDJ.

I mainly get memory sticks nowadays but last couple of weeks has proved CD is not dead, wonder if we'll get die hard CD DJ's! bring back CD & revenge of the CD and all that.

The Denon 3700 are Usb Vinyls.

Started on 1200's...moved to CDJ's..but now I just a USB MIDI controller (Native Instruments S4)...

Were I starting now, I'd go straight to a top line controller with integrated audio...

the gigs im doing though are more like 30-1h sets and not private, should i just for turn tables if thats what im doing?
