Topic: Choosing an amp.

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Okay, my Behringer seems to be dying, I'm choosing a different amp. I'm kinda confused by the whole thing. I have Peavey MDJ1150 passive speakers:

Would this amp be what I want?

Or would the GX3 be better for me?

I need it loud, clear and reliable.

Whats Up Crasher. The Peaveys are 150 watts Rms and its 300 program. I would use an amp that pushes 200 and a little above watts Rms. You can use the QSC GX3 but, Dont raise the volume too much to prevent them from blowing. Crown has a Power amp, XLS 1000 Drive core series and it would push the peaveys nice.

Thank you, sir. The Crown is now on my list.

Alright crasher,

You might wanna consider getting some active cabs, that way you upgrade from the 150w PV's.

Here's what happened. I called Sam Ash and GC to make sure they had units in stock and check prices. Both stores on both amps was the same 299.99. SO, store and price was not a determining factor. I went to SamAsh, although I've had bad experiences there, they are closest to my house. They had the QSC and Crown. The Crown was a display, I don't like buying displays. Then both salesmen kinda downed the QSC, GX series. One salesman recommended the Peavey IPr1600 the other recommended a Samson SX1200. We did a A-B comparison on the Peavey and Crown and the Crown sounded muddy. So, I took the Peavey home. It went into my rig nice and looked good. The next night I set my PA up in the living room and fired it up. Sounded great, until I took my finger off the power button. It wouldn't stay on. Bad out of the box, I had a wedding the next day and time was getting short. I went and swapped it out for the Samson. It is built like a tank, sounds good and has a three year warranty. The gig went well.
